WASHINGTON, DC--U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s 4-4 decision in the United States v. Texas, commonly referred to as the legal case against Obama’s Executive Amnesty. Due to this tie, the lower court’s decision will be upheld: the President’s attempt to use executive action to grant amnesty is unlawful.

“Today’s decision is a victory for the Constitution, which specifically grants Congress the power to write our laws. This President has a long history of ignoring the laws he does not like and attempting to unilaterally write his own—but try as he might, the Constitution does not give him this power. 

The President’s Executive Amnesty has been a long battle. The House, with my support, passed an amicus brief on behalf of the entire House of Representatives to further explain how the President overstepped his constitutional limitations. In addition to Texas, my home state of Georgia joined a total of twenty-six states in a lawsuit challenging the President on his executive actions on immigration. Clearly, the President’s agenda was not the peoples’ agenda.

I am glad that the President’s acts were rightfully ruled unlawful, and the integrity of our nation’s most fundamental document, the Constitution, was restored. This decision should be a reality check for our out-of-control executive branch.”
