Rep. Rick Allen Supports 21st Century Cures Act

Bill Helps Expedite Discovery, Development, and Delivery of Lifesaving Treatments

U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) today supported bipartisan legislation to promote health care innovation and accelerate the development and delivery of cures to fight thousands of diseases impacting millions of Americans. The 21st Century Cures Act, H.R. 6, updates the medical innovation infrastructure, cuts red tape by streamlining the regulatory process, and supports advancements in personalized medicine and future research. Congressman Allen applauded the bill’s passage in the House with a bipartisan vote of 344-77 and released the following statement:

“Breakthroughs in technology and science continue to transform medical innovation, and we need policies that promote a 21st century approach to health care. Currently, there are 10,000 known diseases, yet we only have treatments for 500 of them. The 21st Century Cures Act will help the medical community in their efforts not only to develop but deliver lifesaving treatments. By cutting red tape and modernizing health care, this legislation can help improve the lives of individuals and families while supporting jobs in the 12th district and nationwide.”

Congressman Allen spoke on the House floor today in support of the legislation and shared the story of a constituent from Evans, Ga., who is affected by autism and faces obstacles receiving medication caught up in bureaucratic red tape. Congressman Allen stressed that the 21st Century Cures Act will improve access to treatments that help patients, their families, and future generations. You can watch the video HERE.
