Rep. Rick Allen Acts to Strengthen VA Accountability

U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) today voted in favor of H.R. 1994, the VA Accountability Act of 2015, which gives the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) greater authority to remove or demote VA employees based on misconduct or poor performance. Allen cosponsored the legislation and issued the following statement:

“It has been more than a year since the scandal at the VA revealing the level of dysfunction and mismanagement, and today, far too many VA employees who have failed our veterans still have not been held accountable. In order to effectively reform the VA, there needs to be a culture of accountability. This legislation will give the VA Secretary authority to fire any employee for wrongdoing or incompetency. Our nation’s heroes deserve the best treatment possible, and this bill will help remove VA employees hurting our veterans and promote a system of accountability.”
