Rep. Rick Allen Visits Georgia Regents University
Washington,
February 20, 2015
U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) on Wednesday toured Georgia Regents University (GRU) and spoke with faculty members about GRU’s cyber education program and future plans for university facilities. In addition to the GRU campus, Allen also visited Georgia Regents Medical Center’s Emergency Department and spoke with medical staff about initiatives they are implementing to strengthen emergency care and address challenges in rural health. Congressman Allen and GRU Provost Gretchen Caughman issued the following statements following the visit: “Augusta is fortunate to have a strong institution like Georgia Regents University in our community,” said Congressman Allen. “I was very impressed by the vision of GRU’s faculty members who are building excellent programs in important areas like cyber education that will contribute to our country’s national defense as well as our local economy with the addition of Cyber Command headquarters at Fort Gordon.” Congressman Allen continued, “I’m also grateful to the faculty and health care professionals of Georgia Regent’s medical arm who are training health care providers for the future as well as providing quality care to families and individuals. They are implementing exciting health initiatives to better serve patients and all communities, and I’m committed to ensuring these types of critical programs are developed at the local level rather than in Washington. GRU’s ongoing work in health care further shows that we need to return control from the federal government back to local communities and health care professionals, who understand the needs of patients and the medical community best.” “We are grateful to Congressman Allen for taking the time to learn more about the ways Georgia Regents University is rising to meet challenges of the future on issues as diverse as cyber security education and rural healthcare,” said GRU Provost Gretchen Caughman. “We look forward to continued dialogue with Congressman Allen in the future.”
