this week serving georgia's 12th district...

I’d like to wish all of our mothers a happy and joyful Mother’s day, especially my wife Robin, my three daughters, and daughter-in-law.

We thank you every day for what you do for your children, grandchildren, and families!

We also recognized Teacher Appreciation Week and Small Business Week.

The value of education cannot be understated on the path to achieving the American Dream, and this starts with our teachers in the classroom. Thank you for your service to our nation’s future leaders!

As you may know, Georgia has been named the number one state to do business in for six consecutive years, and this small business week comes on the heels of a remarkable April jobs report.

With 263,000 new jobs in April alone and the lowest unemployment rate in a generation, our businesses are booming!

The House Education and Labor Committee’s Health, Employment, Labor, and Pension Subcommittee held a hearing on deterring unfair labor practices.

I asked our panel about how businesses can collaborate with workers to better recruit, train, and maintain skilled labor to fill the millions of available jobs throughout our nation.

The House voted on a disaster relief package, with my support, which would provide critical disaster relief funding for farmers and ranchers who suffered devastating losses due to natural disasters, including Hurricane Michael and the 2017 freeze to blueberry and peach crops. See my full statement below.

The House Agriculture Committee’s General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee held a hearing to review the state of the farm economy.

We covered a variety of topics including farm income, trade, disaster relief, and implementation of the 2018 Farm Bill.

I was able to attend the White House ceremony to see Tiger Woods receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom following his standout victory at the 2019 Masters, and I congratulated him on the floor for this well-deserved honor.

Tiger is only the fourth golfer to be awarded with this well-deserved distinction! To view my speech on the House floor, please CLICK HERE.

I also spoke on the House floor in support of the Trump Administration’s efforts to address the rising costs of prescription drugs.

Prescription drug costs are causing significant financial burdens for millions of American patients and seniors; and far too often, Americans have to choose between much needed prescriptions and household expenses.

Earlier this year, the Trump Administration issued a proposal that would create incentives to lower list prices and reduce out-of-pocket spending on prescription drugs – potentially becoming the most sweeping change to how Americans’ drugs are priced. To view my speech, please CLICK HERE.

I had a number of great meetings this week, including the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Georgia Bankers Association, the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia, and Secretary Betsy DeVos.

Thanks for stopping by!

Robin and I enjoyed attending the March of Dimes Gourmet Gala where we served her candied bacon-wrapped dates.

With one of our granddaughters born two months premature, improving the health of mothers and babies is a cause that hits close to home. Our good friend, Republican Whip Steve Scalise, even stopped by for a visit!

Back in the district, I enjoyed speaking at the Paceline Ride in Augusta about my support for cancer research and the Glennville Sweet Onion Festival about the importance of agriculture in Georgia.

Thanks for having me!

On Tuesday, Governor Brian Kemp signed House Bill 481, the Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act, into Georgia law. This legislation would ban abortions in Georgia once a fetal heartbeat is detected.

With this in mind, I’d like to highlight H.R. 490 this week, the Heartbeat Protection Act, of which I am an original cosponsor. This legislation makes it a crime for a physician to knowingly perform an abortion without first determining whether there is a detectable heartbeat, without informing the mother of the results, or after determining a detectable heartbeat.

I believe life begins at conception, and as an original cosponsor of H.R. 490 and many other pro-life bills, I share Governor Kemp’s commitment to providing a voice for those who cannot yet speak for themselves.

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒  HEREcontact any of our offices or join the conversation on FacebookTwitter or Instagram

Sincerely,
