BILL PASSED: The Parents Bill of Rights Act

.

This week, I voted to pass the Parents Bill of Rights Act, legislation affirming that parents have every right to be actively involved in their child’s education. I am proud to be an original co-sponsor on this legislation and help lead the charge on returning power to the parents – where it has always belonged.

Prior to the vote, I spoke in support of the bill on the House Floor. You can click here to listen to my full remarks.

Supporting Our Farmers

.

I just re-introduced the Better Agriculture Resources Now (BARN) Act, legislation that would reform and strengthen the federal H-2A visa program.

This bill improves efficiency for H-2A visa processing by transferring certification responsibilities from the Department of Labor (DOL) to the Department of Agriculture (USDA). The BARN Act also modifies the filing deadline to extend greater flexibility to applicants, enacts strong reforms to combat visa overstays and fraud, and establishes clear housing requirements for H-2A workers.

Joining the Means Report

.

I caught up with WJBF NewsChannel 6's Brad Means on the Means Report this week to talk about the Parents Bill of Rights Act and other important legislation that we are working to pass through Congress.

Energy and Commerce Committee

Full Committee Hearing

“TikTok: How Congress Can Safeguard American Data Privacy and Protect Children from Online Harms”

The House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing focused on the need for Congress to strengthen data privacy protections on social media platforms.

During the hearing, I questioned TikTok's CEO Shou Chew about reports that its parent company ByteDance is using the platform to gather information on young Americans.

Full Committee Markup

I also participated in a markup to advance several bills that would help secure the southern border and stem the flow of deadly fentanyl.

Included in this package is the HALT Fentanyl Act, legislation I co-introduced to permanently list fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I narcotics. During the markup, I spoke in support of this legislation.

We also reviewed the Securing the Border for Public Health Act, a bill that I have co-sponsored to authorize Customs and Border Protection to deport drug traffickers.
