this week serving georgia's 12th district...

It was with a heavy heart that we remembered our fallen and all of those affected by the horrific attacks on 9/11 seventeen years ago. I was honored to attend the Columbia County Memorial Event to pay my respects to all that we lost on that heart-wrenching day.

May we always thank our men and women in uniform and our first responders for their selflessness and resiliency during a time of such great need and desperation.

As Hurricane Florence bears down on the Carolinas and parts of Georgia, please be sure to take advantage of the many resources offering emergency safety tips and helpful guidelines for preparation efforts before, during, and after the storm.

  • With September being National Preparedness Month, you can visit https://www.ready.gov/  for information on evacuations, hurricanes, flooding, power outages, and more.
  • You can also text FLORENCE 898-211 to access updates and resources via your mobile device.

As always, my offices in Washington, Augusta, Statesboro, Dublin, and Vidalia are always here to help and you can find our contact information HERE.

This year’s Georgia-12 Fall Academy Day was a tremendous success. I was pleased to provide useful information about the application and nomination process to many of our young leaders who have a passion and desire to serve this great nation.

I’d like to thank all of those who attended this year’s event and Augusta University for their generous hospitality.

I spoke to a group of young students in Burke County at the “Feed My School” Event.

This is a great event that supports our local farmers and teaches our young students exactly how our food gets from the farm to the dinner table – or in this case, the cafeteria table!

I also spoke to the Young Professionals of Augusta to give them an update on my work on behalf of the 12th district and take a few questions.

Thanks for having me!

It was a busy week of meetings in my D.C. office.  I met with the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association, Southern Cotton Growers, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Legislative Committee - just to mention a few.

The House passed the conference report to H.R. 5895 which funds portions of the government, including Energy and Water, the Legislative Branch, Military Construction and the VA.

The conference report to H.R. 5895 passed by a vote of 377-20 in the House of Representatives and does the following:

  • Appropriates $99 million for a Cyber Instructional Facility and Network Center at Fort Gordon, as authorized in the FY19 NDAA which was signed into law by President Trump
  • Funds critical missions at Savannah River Site
  • Provides $86.5 billion for VA programs including VA medical care, processing disability claims, VA construction, and the new VA electronic health record system
  • Provides significant funding for the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project
