Speaker Pelosi just released her new legislative calendar, and under the Democrat majority, the People’s House is only scheduled to be in session for 26 days before the end of the year. As we continue to respond to COVID-19 and work toward a speedy economic recovery, this is failed leadership by Speaker Pelosi-- and the American people deserve more! Let’s not forget under her unconstitutional proxy voting scheme, which I adamantly oppose, several members of Congress haven’t even showed up to work in months – allowing colleagues who represent other congressional districts to vote in their place.
In stark contrast, President Trump and Republicans in Congress are continuing to show up and prioritize American families and workers.
Here are some updates I want to make sure you’ve seen:
Delivering COVID-19 Relief
Serving Our Rural Communities
- President Trump recently signed an executive order to expand telehealth to help Americans in rural communities access healthcare services and give our healthcare providers more flexibility.
Rebuilding Our Economy
-
While there’s certainly more work to do, the July Jobs Report was encouraging and shows we are moving in the right direction. Payrolls increased last month by nearly 1.8 million, beating expectations!
-
Unemployment claims fell below one million last week for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic hit in March.

Columbia County Chamber Legislative Breakfast
It was a privilege joining the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce at their legislative breakfast, where I was able to share a congressional update. Thank you for presenting me with the Spirit of Enterprise Award for my pro-business voting record in Congress!
Asking the U.S. Postal Service About Delays
While COVID-19 has understandably impacted the postal service’s normal operations, it has come to my attention that several constituents throughout the 12th District have experienced major issues with their mail service, such as extreme delays or days of receiving no mail. This week, I wrote a letter to the United States Postal Service Postmaster General asking for answers. You can read my letter here.
Entrepreneur Roundtable
I had the opportunity to join theClubhou.se for a virtual roundtable with local entrepreneurs to share an update and learn more about issues impacting our small businesses. It was a great conversation and their feedback is important to me as Congress continues negotiating another coronavirus relief package.
Conference Call with Community Strong!
Community Strong! is a weekly ZOOM gathering led by and for self-advocates. I recently joined them to learn more about issues impacting those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and to see how Congress can help.
2020 Congressional App Challenge
REMINDER: Registration for the 2020 Congressional App Challenge is now open! This nationwide competition is for middle and high school students in the 12th District who are interested in creating a software application, or “app,” for web, PC, tablet, mobile, or other platform of their choice. For more information on the competition, including key dates and deadlines, click here.
Children are precious and made in the image of God. They are not experimental pawns and should never be subject to the unforeseen consequences of gender reassignment procedures.
That’s why I’m proud to co-sponsor two critical bills, the Protecting Children from Experimentation Act and the End Taxpayer Funding of Gender Experimentation Act, that would prohibit tax dollars from funding these harmful procedures, ensure the well-being of our children, and make it a federal crime for doctors to perform these surgeries or prescribe unsafe hormone treatments.
As always, my office is here to help. You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Sincerely,
Rick Allen
