| Standing For American Values, Fighting Socialism, Addressing National Debt |
I’m proud to serve on the Republican Study Committee (RSC), the conservative caucus of House Republicans. RSC promotes a principled legislative agenda that will limit government, strengthen our national defense, boost America’s economy, preserve traditional values, and balance our budget.
This week, I joined over 100 of my fellow RSC members on a letter committing to defend American values, fight the Left’s calls for socialism, and take action to address the nation’s $26.5 trillion national debt. I believe Congress must take action to protect our great nation, which requires us taking a serious look at the balance sheet and restoring fiscal sanity. You can read our full letter here.
Addressing Our National Debt Crisis
This week the House passed H.R. 7617, another Fiscal Year 2021 spending package, that totals over $1 trillion. I wanted to offer a 5 percent cut to multiple divisions throughout this bill, but continuing the Democrats’ shadowy process, only one of my amendments to this bill was ruled in order.
My amendment was simple – it would reduce the total amount of funding for the Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), and Education division by 5 percent for Fiscal Year 2021. While I urged my colleagues to support my amendment and start to put our nation back on a path toward fiscal responsibility, Democrats opposed my amendment and continue to ignore our debt crisis.
Remembering Herman Cain
On July 30th, our nation lost a patriot. Herman Cain was a man of faith who believed in and lived the American dream. After a successful business career, he turned to public service – and I’m so grateful he did. He was a strong advocate for conservative values, freedom, and free enterprise. Robin and I are praying for his family as they mourn this tragic loss.
Supporting Working Families Who Need Access to Child Care
This week I spoke during debate on the House floor in opposition to H.R. 7027, an overreaching, partisan proposal that would hinder working families who need access to child care. We can all agree that child care is necessary in getting Americans back to work, but the Democrats' solution is more government control, more regulation, and more taxpayer dollars with burdensome strings attached that would actually limit child care options.
Urging Final Legislation to Include Fix For New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam
House Democrats brought forward the Water Resources Development Act, a biennial piece of legislation that authorizes water projects throughout the nation, for a vote on the House floor this week without a chance to amend the bill. I urged my colleagues to include language that will protect our pool guaranteed by the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam in a final bill once it is negotiated with the Senate in a conference committee. It is critical that we maintain the pool at the level our community needs, and at the level required under law according to the WIIN Act, while accommodating fish mitigation.
Additionally, I worked with my colleagues in the House and Senate to send a bipartisan letter to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, urging them to include consensus language in the final bill.

If you have received an unsolicited package, you are strongly advised not to open or plant the seeds and should contact the GDA Seed Lab at 229-386-3145 or email SeedLab@agr.georgia.gov.
ICYMI: I Held a Telephone Town Hall with Dr. Stephen Goggans, District Health Director of the East Central Health District
I provided residents of Georgia's 12th District with an update on the Older Americans Act, lowering the cost of prescription drug prices, and Operation Warp Speed’s progress in developing a COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Stephen Goggans, District Health Director of the East Central Health District, joined to provide an update on COVID-19 testing and developments. For those who were unable to participate, here are some of the highlights.
Ensuring Students Have Internet Access
Thank you to Governor Brian Kemp and State School Superintendent Richard Woods for allocating $6 million of our state’s CARES Act funding to purchase equipment for local school systems to help improve students’ access to the internet. I’ve long advocated for the need to expand broadband access and will continue fighting for our rural communities in Congress.
