Military Service Academy Signing Day

.

This week, I hosted a Signing Day ceremony for GA-12 students who were offered and accepted an appointment to one of our nation's military service academies.

One of the greatest privileges as your Congressman is having the opportunity to nominate qualified young men and women to our nation's service academies. I know that these distinguished leaders will make the 12th District and our nation very proud and they embark on their military careers.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking these students for their desire to serve.

Telephone Town Hall Update

I was grateful for the opportunity to have spoken with nearly 9,000 people in GA-12 during my live telephone town hall this week. In case you couldn't be with us, you can click here for more information and highlights from the event.

Additionally, I invite anyone who didn't get a chance to ask their question live on-air to contact one of our offices. If you would like to participate in an upcoming telephone town hall event, be sure to sign up to receive a call at www.allen.house.gov/live.

Groundbreaking at Georgia Southern University

I recently attended a groundbreaking for Georgia Southern University's new Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center. Senator Hill was a Georgia Southern graduate and fought for the University throughout his 30 years in the Georgia Senate.

The Hill Convocation Center will be a great addition to this beautiful campus.

Inflation reaches new 40-year high in May

This week, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released its latest inflation statistics, tracking the rise of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) during the month of May.

The most up-to-date figures show inflation has now risen 8.6 percent in the past year, with energy leading all categories. According to the data, in the last 12 months:

  • Gas prices are up 48.7%
  • Electricity is up 12.0%
  • Groceries are up 11.9%

Enough is enough. Americans simply cannot afford to keep footing the bill for this administration's failed policies.

It was great meeting with Georgia FFA students and seeing our homegrown Vidalia onions at the store!

Testifying on Important GA-12 Issues

.

The Savannah River Site has consistently answered the call to safeguard our national security, and we must continue to support this critical mission and modernize our nuclear inventory.

I was proud to testify before the House Appropriation Committee's Subcommittee on Energy and Water about the need to fully fund the Savannah River Site, as well as underscoring the need to maintain the water level at the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam.

You can watch my full testimony by clicking here.

Questioning Secretary Cardona at Education & Labor Committee hearing

.

U.S. Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona recently came before the House Education and Labor Committee to testify on the policies and priorities of the Department of Education.

I wanted to be sure he was aware of the politically-motivated lesson plans being taught in one of Georgia's largest public-school districts, Atlanta Public Schools, where students were taught to oppose Georgia's new election law and voter identification as a whole. I subsequently led the Georgia Republican Congressional delegation in a letter to Georgia State Superintendent Robert Woods calling on the department to keep politics out of the classroom. You can read our letter here.

We must also be committed to ensuring families have choice in the education opportunities afforded to their children, regardless of their zip code, whether that be a traditional public, private, charter or faith-based school.

You can watch my full line of questioning by clicking here.

Protecting Our Schools

Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of the victims of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. This is a horrific tragedy; we will continue lifting them up in prayer.

In the past, I have proudly supported measures to harden schools against acts of violence. Additionally, I have introduced legislation (H.R. 787) to help schools use existing funding to ensure mental health services are accessible to students.

Unfortunately, the partisan gun control package that Speaker Pelosi unveiled this week would do nothing to address either school safety or mental health.

I voted against this package. You can read my full statement here.
