Commitment to America:
Restore, Rebuild, Renew

COVID-19 has impacted us all, especially American workers and families whose businesses and livelihoods were devastated during this tough year. Unfortunately, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats have made their radical agenda clear: Instead of working on bipartisan solutions to address the pandemic, they’re focused on defunding our police, dismantling our Constitution, and destroying our economy and standing in the world.

That’s why this week, House Republicans launched our Commitment to America, which you can read more about here. We believe this is still the greatest nation in the world, and that it’s worth fighting for. Specifically, we commit to working on policy solutions that will restore our way of life, rebuild the greatest economy in the world, and renew the American Dream.

Introducing the Saving American History Act

This week, Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colo.) and I introduced the Saving American History Act, a bill that would prohibit federal funds from being used to teach the New York Times’ historically inaccurate 1619 Project in K-12 schools or school districts. This bill serves as companion legislation to Senator Tom Cotton's version, originally introduced in July. This bill would not impact federal funds to assist low-income or special-needs students.

The 1619 Project’s goal is to indoctrinate the idea in our nation’s young people that America is an evil country – which is far from the truth. Though our history is not perfect, we have overcome our challenges to create a land of opportunity for all. If we want to fight injustice and work toward a more perfect union, we must learn from our past and teach our students to do better – not teach false history. This legislation will ensure federal education funding is going towards truthful and historically accurate curriculum.

National POW-MIA Recognition Day

Today we remember and honor all those who were held as Prisoners of War and those who remain Missing in Action. We will never forget your sacrifice for our nation.

Fighting for Choice in Education

This week, I spoke during debate on the House floor and explained that any legislation aimed at addressing equality for all children must also ensure no state has the ability to trap students in low-performing schools. Rather than bring a bill to the House floor that would expand the availability of charter schools or offer families educational freedom, Democrats passed H.R. 2639 – partisan legislation that imposes a top-down, big government approach that would give the federal government authority on how to address local issues of diversity in America’s schools – not local school districts.

I offered an amendment to give school districts flexibility with federal funds to address racial and socioeconomic isolation in schools, but House Democrats rejected the amendment.

Examining the U.S. Postal Service

ICYMI: I set the record straight and addressed some misinformation recently shared regarding the USPS in The Augusta Chronicle. Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats pushed a conspiracy theory designed to sow fear and attack President Donald Trump. You can read my full opinion piece here.

Peace in the Middle East

Thanks to the leadership of President Donald Trump, this week the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain signed a historic peace agreement with Israel. The Abraham Accords will help put the region on a path toward stability, security and opportunity.

Meeting with Rally for Medical Research

Thanks to Rally for Medical Research for discussing the vital work the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is doing to address COVID-19 while also supporting the science that is necessary to improve and save lives from the myriad of diseases faced by Americans.

Military Academy Nominations

One of my greatest privileges as your Congressman is having the opportunity to nominate qualified young men and women to our nation’s Service Academies. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements and be nominated by an authorized person, including a member of the United States House of Representatives or United States Senate.

My office is currently accepting applications, which are due no later than Friday, October 16, 2020 at 5pm. For more info on eligibility and how to apply, please visit my website.

Supporting American Energy

I’m proud to have a 100% on American Energy Alliance’s scorecard recognizing my record of supporting American Energy. President Trump and the Republican-led Congress worked hard to ensure that our nation is not dependent on foreign nations for our energy needs.

Hurricane Sally

This week Hurricane Sally made landfall in the U.S., and its path encompassed parts of Georgia. As a result of the storm, many areas experienced heavy rain and flooding. I hope everyone is safe, and if you need any assistance please do not hesitate to contact my office.

As always, my office is here to help. You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Sincerely,
