Many families in Georgia and throughout our country are affected by Alzheimer’s disease, and today, I hope you will join me in raising awareness as we continue to work towards finding a cure to combat Alzheimer’s in the future. I am a proud member of the “The Bipartisan Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer’s Disease” and continue to support legislation to curb this devastating disease.
In Augusta, I spoke at the Leadership Augusta Executive Forum hosted by the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce.
We had a great discussion about the tremendous growth we are experiencing in Georgia’s 12th district and the uniqueness of the Augusta area with U.S. Army Cyber Command’s transition to Fort Gordon.
I traveled down the road to Statesboro where I had a great meeting with Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator, Richard Fordyce, and Georgia Agriculture Commissioner, Gary Black.
The FSA provides direct and guaranteed loans to beginning farmers and ranchers who are unable to obtain financing from commercial credit sources. I’d like to thank FSA Administrator Fordyce and Commissioner Black for giving me an update on these programs that are essential to our agricultural communities and I look forward to continuing to work with them through my role on the House Agriculture Committee.
I also attended a dinner with the Georgia House of Representatives’ Rural Development Council.
We continued our conversation about the importance of FSA programs to our rural communities and I gave an update on the Farm Bill negotiations and took some questions. Thanks for having me!
I headed south to Coffee County, where I stopped by the Satilla Regional Library in Douglas for a grant ceremony. The Satilla Regional Library System received a USDA Facilities Grant to make technology improvements and substantially update its books and multi-media collections at five of its branches - three of which are located in Coffee County.
I was happy to do my part at the federal level and offer my support for this grant, which will benefit residents of rural Georgia and allow the Satilla Regional Library System to further meet the educational, informational and recreational needs of the area it serves.
I also visited the Boys and Girls Club of Coffee County. This 21st Century Community Learning Center offers an after-school program for lower income students, with the goal to provide positive engagement and help improve academic performance for young scholars.
Thanks for having me!
I attended Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers’ Presidential Inauguration at South Georgia State College (SGSC).
Congratulations to Dr. Thompson-Sellers, who has been serving as the Interim President since 2016 and has now been inaugurated as the eighth President of SGSC.
Today, as we recognize National POW/MIA Day, may we all take a moment to thank our brave men and women in uniform who have served and are currently serving to protect the freedoms that we hold so dear to our hearts.
I was honored to help with the mission of returning fallen soldiers to their families by introducing an amendment to allocate $10,000,000 in additional funds to the POW/Missing Persons Accounting Agency to assist in identifying unclaimed remains of U.S. soldiers that have been missing since the Korean conflict, which was completely offset by reducing spending in other accounts.
Tomorrow we celebrate Museum Day 2018! Over 1,400 participating museums and cultural institutions across the country will offer free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. This year’s theme is “Women Making History,” and the Augusta Museum of History and Morris Museum of Art will be proudly representing Georgia-12.
