Protecting Americans' Access to Retirement Advice

pic

On Tuesday, I offered an amendment on the House floor to prohibit taxpayer funds from being used to enforce the Biden Administration’s destructive fiduciary rule.

This recycled Obama-era disaster would raise costs and reduce access to financial advice for Americans with low and moderate incomes, as well as small businesses. By requiring financial advisors to adhere to a strict, burdensome, and unworkable regulation, retirement advice will no longer be accessible to those most in need of retirement security if this rule comes to fruition. I am proud my amendment was adopted by a voice vote.

Government Funding Update

spending

House Republicans have made notable progress in completing the appropriations process through regular order while the Senate remains woefully behind. But as our adversaries on the world stage are increasingly emboldened by President Biden’s weak leadership, now is not the time to shut down the federal government.

That's why the House passed stopgap funding this week that allows House Republicans to continue fighting for responsible appropriations bills that cut wasteful spending while delivering certainty for our farmers by extending the Farm Bill for one year and preventing another bloated Christmas spending bill. I’m thankful for Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership in this fight.

October Border Numbers

october border

Since President Biden took office, there have been over 8.2 MILLION illegal crossings at our southern border. In October alone, there were nearly 241,000 illegal immigrants attempting to cross our border, making it the highest total encounters for October in Department of Homeland Security history.

This Administration's open-border policies are undoubtedly to blame. House Republicans passed legislation, H.R. 2, that would end the Biden border crisis and strengthen our immigration policies. The Secure the Border Act of 2023 is the strongest border security bill in history. It's past time for the Senate to pass H.R. 2 and send it to President Biden's desk.

'Bidenomics' is NOT Working

bidenomics

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, since Joe Biden took office, prices have risen 17.1%. America’s surging inflation is a direct result of President Biden and Democrats’ reckless spending, which House Republicans are committed to reining in.

'Bidenomics' simply isn't working. Americans can expect to pay more this year for just about every aspect of their Thanksgiving meal as inflation “remains well above the Federal Reserve’s target.”

March for Israel

I stopped by the March for Israel which took place on the National Mall on Tuesday to stand in solidarity with Israel, show support for our Jewish community leaders, and condemn antisemitism here in the United States.

Military Academy Nominations Board Meeting

I enjoyed meeting with my Military Academy Nominations Board. I am appreciative of their service to our country and to the Board's steadfast work this year, and in previous years, to continue growing our program and Military Academies.

Communications and Technology Subcommittee Hearing

“Leveraging AI to Enhance American Communications”

The Subcommittee on Communications and Technology held a hearing to examine what a regulatory framework for generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) might look like in the future. I asked our witnesses about protecting intellectual property rights and how we can best identify and mitigate bias in AI algorithms.

Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee Hearing

"Clean Power Plan 2.0: EPA"s Effort to Jeopardize Reliable and Affordable Energy for States"

The Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials held a hearing to examine the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) continued efforts to shut down reliable energy in our nation. I voiced my concern that these proposals would increase energy costs for consumers, especially in our rural communities.  At a time of unprecedented inflation, we must support policies that ensure our communities have access to affordable, reliable energy.
