Pelosi Is Holding Hostage
Small Business Assistance

This week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats brought forward a partisan messaging bill with a $2.2 trillion price tag that will never become law. Instead of working on bipartisan legislation to address the COVID-19 pandemic, House Democrats passed their socialist wish-list which includes allowing illegal immigrants to receive direct stimulus payments, subsidizing Obamacare, and removing safeguards that would prevent taxpayer money from bailing out Planned Parenthood. This is their second “stimulus package” that contains progressive provisions that have absolutely nothing to do with the coronavirus – a big difference is this one cuts police funding by $600 million.

Congressman Allen speaks in opposition to Democrats’ Heroes Act 2.0

While American families, workers and businesses are keeping their heads down and working to revitalize our economy, Speaker Pelosi continues to stall on bringing forward legislation that could immediately support our small businesses. This week I joined over 170 of my colleagues in signing a discharge petition to circumvent Speaker Pelosi and bring legislation to the floor to extend the Paycheck Protection Program.

Praying for President Trump and the First Lady

Robin and I are praying for President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump after they tested positive for COVID-19. The Trumps are fighters, and I wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Holding China Accountable

It’s become clear over the past few months that China lied to the rest of the world about the coronavirus pandemic. However, the coronavirus cover-up is just one example of the generational threat that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses to the U.S., our ideals, and our allies.

My colleagues on the China Task Force released a detailed report this week on how the U.S. can combat threats to our supply chain, emerging technologies, national security, energy independence, and economy. You can read the full report here.

Meeting with Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce

I had the privilege of meeting with the Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce to learn more about their efforts to help business owners. I know that the COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on our businesses, so I appreciate their work to support our community.

Judge Amy Coney Barrett

Judge Amy Coney Barrett is a highly qualified nominee to serve on the Supreme Court and I applaud President Trump for fulfilling his promise to nominate an originalist who will uphold the Constitution as written. Now it’s time for my colleagues in the U.S. Senate to fill the seat.

Ending Surprise Medical Billing

President Trump understands that too many families find themselves burdened by costly surprise medical bills. That’s why he recently signed an Executive Order to combat this cruel practice. As a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, I’ve long advocated for Congress to take action and work on bipartisan legislation to end this practice once and for all.

Protecting Vulnerable Newborns and Infant Children

The President has also signed an Executive Order to protect all lives, including those born premature, with disabilities, or born in medical distress. I’m proud to cosponsor the Born Alive Survivor Act, which clarifies that an infant born alive at any stage of development is a person under federal law. I will continue to fight for our nation’s most vulnerable.

House Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee Hearing

I have the privilege of serving as a member of the House Agriculture Committee’s Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee, where this week we took a deeper look at conservation programs, including the biggest challenges for farmers to adopt new conservation practices. I also asked the Natural Resources Conservation Service Acting Chief Kevin Norton how his agency is adopting new technology and handling staffing challenges in the age of coronavirus.

Provider Relief Funding

This week, the Trump Administration announced that $20 billion in new funding is available for providers on the frontlines who continue to struggle financially due to the impact of the coronavirus. This is in addition to $100 billion in relief funding previously distributed by the Department of Health and Human Services. Providers can begin applying for funds on Monday, October 5, 2020. More information on eligibility is available here.

Stevens Creek Elementary Named National Blue Ribbon School

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently recognized 367 schools, including Stevens Creek Elementary, as National Blue Ribbon Schools for the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Congratulations on this honor!

Over the past few months, we’ve seen rioting and looting destroy communities and businesses across the country. Those who break the law should feel the consequences of their actions and be held accountable.

That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor H.R. 8117, the Support Peaceful Protest Act. This bill would require rioters who have been arrested for committing crimes like acts of violence, looting or vandalism to pay for the cost of federal policing of the riot and be ineligible for federal unemployment assistance.
