Prayers for President Trump

Please join me and Robin in praying for President Trump and those who were injured or lost their life at yesterday's event in Pennsylvania. We are thankful to the Secret Service and law enforcement officers who acted quickly and decisively in response to this heinous act.

Bipartisan Nuclear Energy Legislation Signed Into Law
|
With Plant Vogtle's nuclear units 3 and 4 fully operational and providing a stable, baseload supply of electricity to Georgia homes and businesses, now is the time to build on this tremendous success and explore further expansion of America's nuclear energy capabilities.
This week, a bipartisan nuclear energy package was signed into law, and I was proud that my Nuclear Licensing Efficiency Act was included in the final legislation. This historic package will help streamline future nuclear projects in the U.S. so that we may fully embrace the reliability of clean, 24/7 nuclear energy for generations to come, and I look forward to seeing its positive impact on America's energy sector.

American Elections are for American Citizens
|
Nearly 80% of voters oppose illegal migrants voting in any U.S. election. Yet, most states permit illegal migrants to receive driver's licenses, allowing them to access voter registration materials.
With my strong support, the House passed H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This commonsense legislation establishes a documentary proof of citizenship requirement for applicants registering to vote, which will help increase public trust and confidence in American elections.
As a cosponsor of the SAVE Act, I was pleased to see it pass the House with bipartisan support. However, it is quite telling that 198 House Democrats opposed a bill that ensures only American citizens can vote in American elections. Shameful.

Protecting Consumer Choice for Home Appliances
|
Time and again, we have seen the Biden Administration’s radical rush-to-green agenda negatively impact the lives of hardworking Americans, including their freedom to choose what household appliances meet their needs—first gas stoves and now dishwashers and refrigerators.
Under the guise of energy efficiency, this administration is issuing new standards that will significantly drive up costs, reduce reliability, and jeopardize the availability of numerous home appliances. That's why the House also passed the Stop Affordable Dishwasher Standards Act and the Refrigerator Freedom Act with my support.
President Biden's war on American energy is crushing families’ budgets nationwide, and both bills will help protect affordability, quality, and choice for residential dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers.

Overturning the DOL's Overreaching Fiduciary Rule
|
As President Biden continues to jeopardize the financial health of Americans, protecting retirement savings has become an urgent priority for working families.
On Wednesday, the Committee on Education and the Workforce held a full committee markup to advance several important pieces of legislation, including my Congressional Review Act (CRA) Joint Resolution of Disapproval to overturn the Biden Department of Labor’s (DOL) finalized fiduciary rule. The Biden Administration has shown that it is out of touch with reality by finalizing such an overly restrictive rule that complicates financial planning through excessive regulation.
By overturning the DOL's destructive fiduciary rule, we can safeguard Americans’ access to prudent financial advice and protect retirees and savers. Now that my resolution has been advanced by the committee, the next step is to bring it to the House floor.

Combatting AI-Generated Robocalls
|
As technology continues to evolve and play a larger role in Americans' lives in the modern economy, Congress must work to ensure existing laws and regulations do not lag behind. Absent clear regulatory guidance, bad actors are too often utilizing AI technologies to deceive consumers through highly realistic automated calls, leading to potential fraud or privacy invasions. Consistently, some of the biggest concerns I hear from 12th District constituents are regarding robocalls and scam calls and texts.
That's why I am proud to be leading the effort in Congress to crack down on this malign practice by introducing the Creating Legal and Ethical AI Recordings (CLEAR) Voices Act. By establishing updated standards for AI-generated voice systems, this legislation aims to protect consumers from these emerging threats. With the increased use of AI in communication, maintaining public trust is crucial, and this bill makes great strides in doing so.

Sign Up for Telephone Town Halls
|
One of the best ways for me to serve you in Congress is by hearing your thoughts and concerns. Throughout the year, I host live Telephone Town Hall meetings to connect with constituents throughout the 12th District.
These meetings are similar to a traditional town hall meeting but are conducted by phone, where you can dial in from the comfort of your own home. The meetings typically last around one hour, with time for you to ask questions, hear live answers, and participate in a number of poll questions that will aid my decision-making in Washington.

Additional Committee Activity

Energy and Commerce
Communications and Technology Subcommittee Hearing:
“The Fiscal Year 2025 Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Agency Budget”
During this hearing, members received testimony from FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel and all FCC Commissioners. I took the opportunity to ask about broadband deployment in rural America, including communities in Georgia's 12th District. Additionally, I highlighted the CLEAR Voices Act, which I introduced this week, and thanked the Commission for their work to combat AI-generated robocalls.

Education and the Workforce
Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee Hearing:
“Confronting Union Antisemitism: Protecting Workers from Big Labor Abuses”
Sadly, antisemitism is at record highs, in part thanks to the actions taken by unions. Across the country, unions have staked out political positions on the ongoing war in Israel, often incorporating antisemitic language and tropes in their anti-Israel advocacy. As antisemitism continues to spread throughout our nation, union leaders must focus on local workers' issues rather than doubling down on their support of pro-Hamas terrorists.
