this week serving georgia's 12th district...

I visited the Cyber Academy of Excellence at the Richmond County Technical Career Magnet School, where students learn in a real-world environment that prepares them for a job in the cyber industry and they can earn their associate degree while simultaneously getting their high school diploma.

We need more innovative ideas like this in our education system to ensure we have a qualified workforce for in-demand jobs like cyber!

I also attended the Statesboro Rotary Club meeting.

It’s always great to see so many familiar faces and hear about the great work being done in the community. Thanks for having me!

At the Georgia State Capitol, it was Augusta Day – and I had very productive meetings with Governor Brian Kemp, Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, and Georgia’s Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black. I also said hello to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and met with the state senators and representatives who represent the many counties and communities in Georgia-12.

Georgia has been the number one state to do business for six consecutive years and I am proud to have such great leaders at the state level to keep the momentum going. I even got the chance to meet and talk with a few Girl Scouts from Screven County!

On Tuesday, President Trump addressed Congress and the American people from the House Chamber for his 2019 State of the Union.

Over the last year, Congress worked hand-in-hand with President Trump to sign historic pieces of legislation into law that have unleashed the economic potential of America and helped secure our nation.

But we still have work that needs to be done! In calling for unity and compromise, President Trump outlined compelling solutions that we can all rally behind, and I stand ready to work with his Administration to accomplish his proactive agenda and continue 'choosing greatness' for America.

One of President Trump’s major priorities is the safety and security of all Americans. I was proud to speak on the House floor during a special order to highlight the significant need to secure our border and stop illegal immigration.

I hosted a telephone town hall on Thursday to speak directly with the great folks of Georgia’s 12th district, where we discussed some of our major accomplishments in 2018, the State of the Union, and the harmful Democratic priorities being pushed under a new majority in the House.

Being able to hear your questions and concerns allows me to better serve you in Congress and I thank all of those who participated in Thursday’s call. If you would like to sign up for future telephone town halls, please visit my website at allen.house.gov.

One of the Democratic priorities for 116th Congress is to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 dollars an hour, and as a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, I participated in a full committee hearing to speak out against this radical proposal that will hurt low skilled workers and small businesses.

With 304,000 new jobs created in January alone, Democrats need to turn their focus to economic growth and getting the American people back to work – not on an unpopular, progressive agenda.

The House Education and Labor Committee also held a hearing on “Examining Threats to Workers with Pre-Existing Conditions.”

The shortcomings of the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, are driving healthcare and prescription drug costs to unprecedented levels. It is critical that we implement effective solutions to restore the doctor-patient relationship and put healthcare back in the hands of healthcare professionals, not Washington bureaucrats. You can view my questions to our panel HERE.

I had meetings in my D.C. office with the Pulp and Paper Workers Resource Council, as well as the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, just to name a few.

I am very thankful for the work that these groups do on behalf of our communities in Georgia’s 12th district and across the country.

I also stopped by the Screven County Farm Bureau Eggs and Issues to speak about the implementation of the 2018 Farm Bill, which President Trump signed into law in December.

As I continue my work on the House Agriculture Committee for 116th Congress, I will always advocate for the diverse agricultural priorities of our area.

In connection with the House Education and Labor Committee’s hearing on “Examining Threats to Workers with Preexisting Conditions,” I’d like to highlight H.R. 692 this week, the Pre-Existing Conditions Protection Act.

The Pre-Existing Conditions Protection Act, of which I am a proud cosponsor, prioritizes three vital goals: guarantee access to coverage, prohibit pre-existing condition benefit exclusions, and a ban on premium rating based on health status.

My colleagues and I are committed to ensuring that we provide affordable access to quality healthcare. I thank the House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader, Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR) for reintroducing this legislation in the 116th Congress.

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒  HEREcontact any of our offices or join the conversation on FacebookTwitter or Instagram
