This Week Serving Georgia's 12th District

Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats announced they will open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump. The partisan political sideshows must end. I spoke on the House floor about the consequences of their efforts and against two partisan Homeland Security bills that were brought to the floor for a vote.

Their agenda to constantly undermine President Trump comes at a cost to the American people—ignoring the pressing issues at hand. One of the best examples is Congress’ lack of action to tackle the undeniable crisis at our Southern Border. The “Illegal Immigrant Customer Service Act” and the “Improving Healthcare for Every Illegal Immigrant Act” bills they passed were partisan and would do nothing to solve the problems at our Southern Border.

If you haven’t had the chance already, please complete my survey on whether or not you support Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s efforts to impeach President Trump. Click this link to weigh in.

I spoke to the Associated General Contractors of America at their National and Chapter Leadership Conference.

I was able to share an update on the work being done in Congress and discuss how my business background and involvement in AGC helped me bring a unique perspective to Washington.

I met with JTEKT to discuss their Koyo Plant in Sylvania.

They engineer and manufacture automotive systems and we discussed how they are prioritizing hiring veterans.

The Technical College System of Georgia stopped by my office.

We were able to discuss SkillsUSA and career and technical education throughout Georgia.

Sheriffs from three counties in Georgia’s 12th District, including Laurens, Appling and Jeff Davis, and I met.

I appreciate all they do to keep our communities safe. During their visit, we discussed addressing the crisis at our Southern Border.

The House Education and Labor Committee marked up a partisan bill known as the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.

This radical legislation gives power to big labor unions at the expense of workers and their families. While I offered an amendment to strike the provision banning state Right to Work laws and an amendment to allow employees to opt out of the union in their workplace at any time, Democrats sided with union bosses and special interests instead of American workers’ right to choice.

The House Education and Labor Committee Health, Employment, Labor and Pension Subcommittee held a hearing on lowering drug prices and increasing transparency.

Rising drug prices is one of the top healthcare issues I hear about in our district. We all agreed in the hearing that something must be done. However, I strongly believe that we must promote market-based, patient-centered healthcare and not a radical government takeover.

The House Agriculture Committee Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee held a hearing.

At the hearing, we focused on the National Forest System and restoring our forest infrastructure.

ICYMI: Last week, I met with Senator Johnny Isakson and other members from the Georgia delegation for lunch.

Senator Isakson is a champion for Georgia. He is always working hard on behalf of our great state and will be sorely missed at the end of the year.

Sanctuary city policies hurt communities throughout the country and incentivize illegal immigration. As a result of these policies, American families have been victim to crimes committed by people who shouldn’t be in our country in the first place. Congress has a duty to protect American citizens, not illegal immigrants.

That’s why I am proud to co-sponsor the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act, H.R. 3964. This legislation would allow the victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants to sue sanctuary cities if that’s where the crime occurred.

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒ HEREcontact any of our offices or join the conversation on FacebookTwitter or Instagram.

Sincerely,

Rick Allen
Member of Congress
