Please join me in praying for the entire Bush family as they mourn the loss of former First Lady Barbara Bush.

Her legacy and dedication to our country will live on for years to come!

The House Agriculture Committee completed the markup process and passed legislation to reauthorize the Farm Bill, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act, through the committee. The next step is to bring this legislation to the House Floor and pass it through the full House of Representatives.

With today’s markup completion and passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, my colleagues and I on the House Agriculture Committee are now one step closer to providing our farming families across America with the relief that they need and deserve. Over the last five years, our farmers have endured a drastic decline in net farm income, and it’s past time that Congress act to address these economic hardships. The bill we passed today does just that – it offers solutions to those challenges in a way that works for rural America and allows our farmers to continue providing the safest, most abundant and affordable food supply in the world.

As a small businessman and job creator, the greatest joy of my life has been affording others with the opportunity to provide for their family, community and nation through gainful employment. With over six million job openings in this country, this bill also makes great strides in getting America back to work. It provides those who are currently on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program with educational, training, and career opportunities to achieve the American dream. I look forward to bringing this legislation to the House floor for debate and a full vote by the House of Representatives, and rest assured that I will continue to support rural America and the farmers of this great nation who provide so much for us all.

I had a great meeting with NTCA - the Rural Broadband Association, as well as the Federal Communications Commission, to discuss the ongoing effort to allow rural America access to affordable broadband – an issue that affects many folks in Georgia-12.

We are also addressing this important issue in the farm bill, authorizing substantial annual appropriations for rural broadband.

I don’t normally celebrate Tax Day, but this year was a call for celebration as we finally say goodbye to our old, out-of-date and burdensome tax code.

Earlier this week, the Winn Army Community Hospital located at Fort Stewart announced that they are now home to a Level IV Trauma Center that will serve the entire surrounding community.

I recently had the opportunity to visit this great facility and tour Fort Stewart, and I am so proud of the work that is being done at this critical base. I’d like to thank and congratulate the community and personnel for their hard work to receive this designation and for their achievement in becoming the first military hospital in Georgia to have a Level IV Trauma Center!

The International Foodservice Distributors Association awarded me with the 2018 Thomas Jefferson Award for promoting policies that enable the U.S. foodservice distribution industry to create well-paying jobs, grow their businesses and contribute to their local communities.

Thank you for the honor!

I had the opportunity to meet with the Afterschool Alliance to discuss the critical need for afterschool and summer learning programs for our students.

Major General Morrison also stopped by the office to talk about the important work they are doing at Fort Gordon to fight the new frontier of modern warfare – cyber.

Thanks for stopping by!

Earlier this week, Robin and I served her famous James River Creole at the March of Dimes Gourmet Gala.

As always, Robin’s dish was a big hit!

March of Dimes is an organization that is especially close to my heart, with my youngest granddaughter being born prematurely, and I want to thank them for the great work they do.

Each year, my colleagues and I have the great honor of nominating a limited number of young people to attend one of America’s Service Academies.

For anyone interested in meeting representatives from our Service Academies to learn more about the opportunities they offer, please consider attending Academy Day 2018 and be sure to register by Monday, April 23, 2018.
