this week in the district...

After a long few weeks in Washington, I was very excited to get back to Georgia-12 just in time to celebrate National Small Business Week!

Small business optimism is at an all-time high and I’d like to thank all our innovators and entrepreneurs throughout America that continue to contribute to our growing economy! Huge “shout-out” to President Trump and my Republican colleagues in Congress – together we are growing the economy and cutting red tape in Washington, D.C. – resulting in small business creation every day.

I started off the district work week in Douglas where I visited Premium Peanut for the grand opening of their new peanut oil facility.

Premium Peanut is leading the way in bringing jobs to rural Georgia and reinvigorating our rural economy. Not only has over $100 million dollars been invested in the entire operation at Premium Peanut, but they have also created 200 plus full-time, year-round jobs with benefits – and that is something to truly be proud of. Thank you all for allowing me to be a part of your success!

I traveled to Hazlehurst where I attended the Jeff Davis County Farm Bureau Fish Fry.

It is always great to see Mayor Bayne Stone and other members of the Jeff Davis Farm Bureau. Boy, they sure do know how to fry fish in South Georgia!

In Dublin, I joined the Dublin Exchange Club for their weekly meeting.

It’s wonderful to see so many familiar faces in Dublin to give an update on my work in Washington!

I traveled to Rincon for the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce “Eggs and Issues”.

I was pleased to join Majority Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives Jon Burns, State Representative Bill Hitchens, and State Senator Jack Hill on the panel to discuss the progress my colleagues and I have made on the House Education and Workforce Committee as well as the House Agriculture Committee. Thank you to all who attended!

I hosted my second Youth Leadership Summit at Georgia Southern University to discuss the importance of leadership with juniors and seniors enrolled in Georgia-12 high schools.

These young leaders are the future of our country and they heard from some amazing speakers who have made a huge impact on the state of Georgia, including: State Representative Jodi Lott who represents the citizens of the 122nd district, Georgia Southern Men’s Head Basketball Coach Mark Byington, host of 95.9 Hot Country Hits Y96, Stephanie Miller, and Chief of Operations for NSA/CSS Georgia's (NSAG) Enterprise Discovery Operations (EDO) organization, Mrs. Micki Pennington. Thank you to the students, chaperones, and speakers for making this tremendous event possible, as well as Georgia Southern University for their hospitality!

I also celebrated National Day of Prayer on Thursday in Statesboro and Augusta!

I hope you were all able to set some time aside to pray for the families of the servicemen on board the Air National Guard C-130 plane that crashed near Savannah. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who tragically lost their lives.

To end the week, I visited Fort Gordon for the Gate 6 groundbreaking ceremony. With the relocation of the U.S. Army Cyber Command to Fort Gordon, personnel at the base continues to increase and Gate 6 will accommodate and alleviate heavy traffic, especially for those commuting to the Whitelaw Facility.

Opening this new gate will offer many benefits to the men and women who come to Fort Gordon every day to faithfully defend our national security. This new gate will not only provide quicker access on and off Fort Gordon and decrease traffic congestion around the other gates, but it will help enhance the security of everything inside the fence line.
