wrapping up this october work period...

Earlier this week, President Trump signed comprehensive, bipartisan opioid legislation into law to address the opioid crisis in America – an important step in the right direction to end addiction to deadly illicit drugs.

Tomorrow is National Prescription Take Back Day and thousands of community sites around the country are participating in take-back events, allowing the public to safely dispose of unwanted medications. Please help us raise awareness of prescription drug abuse by disposing of unwanted, unused, and expired prescription drugs at a Georgia-12 collection site. To find a collection site near you, please visit https://takebackday.dea.gov/.

It has been a busy past two weeks. I attended the Downtown Statesboro Rotary Club Meeting.

It’s always great to see so many familiar faces and discuss some of my work on behalf of Georgia’s 12th district.

I had the opportunity to tour Ogeechee Technical College, where I heard about how they are partnering with the local business community to strengthen career and technical programs for young professionals in the area.

The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, which President Trump recently signed into law, is having a significant impact right here in Georgia-12.

I visited Briggs and Stratton, where over 100 new jobs were announced earlier this year at their Statesboro plant.

Small businesses are continuing to flourish in our red-hot economy thanks to pro-growth, pro-American policies.

I also toured Viracon – a leading single-source architectural glass manufacturer that provides glass solutions for commercial buildings.

Thanks for showing me your operation and for your continued commitment to providing innovative products and reliable service.

I had a great visit at Walker Pharmacy and RJ Pope Menswear – two small businesses in the heart of Bulloch County.

We had great discussions about some of the challenges they face and how I can assist them.

At Vidalia High School, I stopped by a few classes to speak about my work for Georgia-12 and the importance of a quality education.

As a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, I’m committed to ensuring our young people are prepared for the future—and the future is bright for these young scholars!

In Effingham County, I attended the 2018 Chamber of Commerce Business Summit Luncheon with my friend and colleague, Congressman Buddy Carter (GA-01).

We had a vibrant discussion about America’s economy, growing jobs, and the economic impact that the deepening of the Port of Savannah will have and is already having on the area.

In Hazlehurst, I visited Beasley Forest Products.

As the largest production sawmill in the United States and a leading manufacturer of quality matting products, Beasley is the largest employer in Jeff Davis County with 923 employees!

I also stopped by the Hazlehurst Rotary Club meeting to give an update on healthcare, tax reform 2.0, the 2018 Farm Bill, and my work on the House Education and Workforce Committee.

Thanks for having me!

I stopped by the Douglas Rotary and Exchange Club meetings to help celebrate the Exchange Club’s Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Thank you to all of our brave first responders who constantly put their lives on the line for the safety of others.

I also stopped by the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin to discuss their recent improvement to three stars - I will continue to work with the VA to ensure that we provide our veterans with the best possible care.

This Congress has been hard at work to pass meaningful legislation for our veterans, with over 20 signed into law and nearly 50 more passed in the House of Representatives. After serving our country, our veterans deserve the best, and I will continue to work tirelessly on their behalf.
