As Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to kill innocent civilians and threaten global security, this week Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed a joint session of Congress. It was a powerful speech, which ultimately urged Biden to do more to support Ukraine as they defend themselves. We must ensure Ukraine has vital weapons and equipment, including MiGs.
This week, the House passed the Suspending Normal Trade Relations with Russia and Belarus Act, legislation to suspend normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus until President Biden could certify to Congress that both countries have ended their acts of aggression against Ukraine. Additionally, I supported the security portion of the government funding bill that passed Congress last week, which provides an overall boost to defense spending, vital support for Ukraine, and continued authorization of intelligence activities. When America is strong, the world is safer.

I had the honor of joining faith leaders from across Georgia’s 12th District for a prayer service on Sunday, where we lifted the Ukrainian people, military, children, and political leaders in prayer. We also continue to pray that the Russian troops lay down their weapons and end this senseless war.

Unleashing American Energy
|
While banning Russian oil imports is a vital first step, another way to support Ukraine is by unleashing American energy so we can help make the world less reliant on Putin and dictators- who use the profits from oil exports to fund their malign activities.
Biden should not be turning to countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela for oil when we have it in our own backyard! That’s why I spoke on the House floor about the need to make America energy independent again.

Prioritizing Returns, Not Green Funds
|
Americans trust their financial advisors to invest their hard-earned money in a way that maximizes returns, but more and more of the ‘woke’ left are forcing their climate agenda on middle-class families by pushing clients to invest in green funds or other politically charged goals. At a time when prices for everything continue to surge, I joined my colleague Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY), in introducing the Ensuring Sound Guidance (ESG) Act to make sure investment advisors prioritize maximizing returns and empower plan participants to choose how they invest their capital.

Committee Updates-
House Agriculture Committee – Fighting for American Energy Independence - Democrats in charge of the Ag Committee decided to hold a hearing on climate change, rather than take time to address our farmers’ pressing issues, like uncertainty facing our food supply chain and planting season.
- During my remarks, I highlighted that despite Biden and Democrats’ war on fossil fuels, demand does not go away and as result, we are more reliant on foreign dictators.
House Education & Labor Committee – Protecting Students from Unsafe Learning Environments - The Education and Labor Committee considered legislation that would focus on all data gathering, but no action in an attempt to foster safe school environments. I had planned to offer an amendment that would actually improve families’ lives by allowing parents to choose their child’s school if they are trapped in an unsafe learning situation, but that amendment wasn’t relevant to the bill we considered.
- Let me say that again. The bill had nothing to do with taking action to improve families’ lives or allowing children access to a better and safer education, and because of that, we couldn’t offer amendments to accomplish those goals. So instead, I offered an amendment that would require a report examining the effect school choice policies have on alleviating school safety concerns for families. As crime has increased across the nation, innocent students and neighborhood schools find themselves in the crosshairs of lawlessness in communities. My amendment would help provide educators and policymakers’ information that will inform efforts to expand school choice options so students of every background have the opportunity to attend a safe school of their choice. Unfortunately, Democrats rejected it.

In Case You Missed It: Lowering Health Care and Drug Prices
|
At a time when prices for everything continue to surge, the last thing Americans need is to break the bank when receiving the health care and medications they need. Unfortunately, Democrats are doubling down on their socialist health care agenda, which will diminish the quality of care, eliminate choice and ultimately increase costs.
I recently penned an opinion piece in The Washington Times about how House Republicans remain focused on crafting solutions that will actually lower health care costs and drug prices. You can read it here.

Under the Trump Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a rule to protect the sanctity of life by ensuring no Title X funds are used in programs that perform abortions. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has taken steps to reverse this.
That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor H.J.Res. 76, which would use the Congressional Review Act to overturn the Biden Administration’s final Title X Rule and keep the Trump-era policy in place to protect the right to life.
