this week in washington...

It was busy week for meetings in my Washington D.C. office!

I had the opportunity to meet with Coach Vince Dooley (featured in the top photo) and Georgia Veterans of Foreign Wars (below), where we discussed veterans’ issues.

I also met with AIPAC to discuss US-Israel relations (above) and the Georgia Association for Career and Technical Education (below), where we talked about my work on the House Education and Workforce Committee and the necessity of signing reforms of Career and Technical Education into law.

Thank you all for stopping by my office!

I met with the Georgia Farm Bureau to discuss the issues most pressing to them!

I also had the opportunity to speak to young leaders in agriculture to give them an update on this year’s Farm Bill reauthorization!

As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I have a front row seat to crafting farm policy that works for all of our Georgia-12 farmers.

It was great to get back to Georgia to attend a tax reform town hall with Speaker Paul Ryan at the Home Depot headquarters.

I spoke on the House floor in support of the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act – which would establish a permanent solution for disposing our nuclear waste.

Back home in Georgia’s 12th district, we are leading the way in the expansion of our nation’s nuclear energy resources. My district is proud to be the home of every nuclear reactor in the state, with an additional two reactors under construction at Plant Vogtle. Nuclear energy is Georgia’s most reliable power source and provides over 6,000 highly skilled jobs, many of which are filled by my constituents in Georgia-12; but without a permanent solution, nuclear waste remains on site. Now is the time for Congress to act on fulfilling our obligation to dispose of the spent nuclear fuel sitting in our states.

I ended the week with a tour of Savannah River Site with the new National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) Administrator, Ms. Lisa Gordon-Hagerty.

Thank you for coming down to see the site!

One part of my job as your Congressman is to help the folks of Georgia-12 deal with federal agencies. I was happy to help the City of Augusta work through the federal approval process with the Environmental Protection Agency to finally move forward with the dredging of Heirs Pond, Lake Aumond, and Lake Olmstead. The city has been working on this effort since 2009 and I was proud to do my part to demand answers and help navigate through the process.

When it comes to dealing with federal agencies, I know it can be a long and frustrating process. I want you to know that my office and staff are here to help you through this process and resolve any issues you may be having. Let us be a resource for you; my office looks forward to lending a helping hand.
