House Republicans Delivered the America First Agenda
|
House Republicans have met the moment before us and passed H.R.1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Through months of hard work, valuable input from all Members of our conference, and a clear mandate from 77 million Americans—the House delivered the people's agenda. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act codifies President Trump's priorities by providing resources to secure the border, making a generational investment in America's defense, bolstering domestic energy dominance, avoiding the largest tax hike in history, and protecting our most vulnerable communities.
This historic legislation: - Makes the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent – protecting the average taxpayer from a 22% tax hike.
- The average taxpayer in GA-12 would see a 24% tax hike if the Trump Tax Cuts expire.
- A family of 4 making $60,966, the median income in GA-12, would see a $1,160 tax increase if the Trump Tax Cuts expire.
- Over 6,000 family-owned farms in GA-12 would have their death tax exemption slashed in half next year if the Trump Tax Cuts expire.
- Delivers on President Trump’s priorities of no tax on tips, overtime pay, and car loan interest, and provides additional tax relief for seniors.
- Provides funding for 10,000 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel.
- Provides an effective border wall system, specifically:
- Completion of 701 miles of primary wall.
- Construction of 900 miles of river barriers.
- 629 miles of secondary barriers.
- Replacement of 141 miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers.
- Rescinds wasteful Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) spending which led to runaway inflation.
- Streamlines processes for developing energy infrastructure which will unleash American energy, help secure affordable and reliable energy for Americans, and support exporting energy to aid our allies.
- Ensures that Medicaid only pays for American citizens and legal immigrants by strengthening citizenship verifications to determine eligibility, saving tens of billions of dollars.
- Increases personal accountability to help lift Americans out of poverty by establishing work requirements in Medicaid for able-bodied adults who do not have dependent children or elderly parents in their care.
- Strengthens accountability for students and taxpayers, streamlines student
loan options, and simplifies student loan repayment.

Honoring Our Fallen Heroes
|
In 1971, Congress officially designated Memorial Day as a federal holiday. As a cornerstone of American tradition—Memorial Day is not just marked by long weekends and cookouts, it is a day to honor the courageous men and women who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice. As we mark this occasion, we must always remember that freedom isn’t free.
It was an honor to speak at the 2025 Augusta Memorial Day Observance to remember our fallen heroes. We will always be grateful for the fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters who answered the call to serve, shared a deep love of country, and made a promise to protect it with everything they have. I am hopeful that your Memorial Day is full of reflection and gratitude for the courageous souls who gave it all.

Expanding Access to India's Market for U.S. Pecan Producers
|
I recently led a bipartisan, bicameral group of my Georgia colleagues in sending a letter to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins seeking a swift solution in expanding access to India's market for U.S. pecan producers.
India is a significant foreign market for U.S. pecans. With more than 144,000 acres, Georgia ranks number one in the nation for pecans, producing more than any other state for 17 consecutive years. Expanding access to India's market will be beneficial for Georgia's pecan producers, agriculture sector, and rural communities.

Overturning Another Harmful Biden-Era Regulation
|
Last year, the Biden Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a final rule reimposing the Clean Air Act’s “Once In, Always In” policy that states facilities classified as “major sources” of emissions will always be classified as such and can never reclassify as “area sources,” which would allow them to adhere to less burdensome standards.
This egregious and burdensome rule was just one of many actions taken by the previous administration to further hamstring domestic energy producers. That's why House Republicans recently passed S.J. Res. 31, which overturns this harmful rule and returns to the commonsense policy implemented during the first Trump Administration. If businesses reduce their emissions below the "major source" threshold, they should reap the reward of more cost-effective and flexible requirements under the Clean Air Act.
Repealing this backward rule is part of House Republicans’ work to unleash American energy and ensure that government red tape does not stand in the way of creating jobs and growing our economy. Watch my remarks HERE.

This Week's White House Highlight
|
REMINDER: With President Trump back in the White House, we are excited to add a new feature to the newsletter! Each week, I will highlight an executive action, announcement, rulemaking, bill signing, or any other activity from the Trump Administration to keep you well-informed on what's happening in Washington.
This week, First Lady Melania Trump joined President Donald J. Trump in the White House Rose Garden for the signing of S.146, the TAKE IT DOWN Act, a historic and bipartisan new law focused on protecting children and families from online extortion and exploitation through the non-consensual distribution of intimate images and deepfake abuse.
As a grandfather of 14, I was proud to support this bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee and on the House floor. Thank you to our First Lady for your tireless work to create a safer digital future and protect our kids from online exploitation.

This Week's Committee Activity

Energy and Commerce Committee
Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Hearing:
“Examining Ways to Enhance Our Domestic Critical Mineral Supply Chains"
It is a matter of national and economic security that the U.S. be a leader in the critical mineral economy. We need to bolster our national critical material supply chain—the mining, the processing, and the refining—and reduce our dependence on China and other bad actors for these materials. I asked our witnesses about how China has monopolized this market and what challenges we face in expanding our critical mineral footprint.
