We recognized National Police Week!
Now and always, we support and admire our brave law enforcement officers for their daily sacrifices and heroic actions on the line of duty to keep our communities safe. From Georgia-12 to all of our officers nationwide, we thank you!
I held a Telephone Town Hall on Tuesday to answer questions from residents of Georgia’s 12th district and provide an update on our booming economy, disaster relief, the opioid crisis and the rising cost of prescription drugs and more.
To sign up for future Telephone Town Halls, please visit my website at https://allen.house.gov/live/ .
We also celebrated National Charter Schools Week, and I spoke on the House floor about my support for charter schools and everything they do for our young students.
As the Senior Republican on the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee, I am proud to share my support for charter schools and put kids first in education.
House Democrats brought H.R. 5, the "Equality" Act, to the floor for a vote – a bill that directly contradicts our First Amendment rights by gutting religious liberty.
Religious freedom is so central to American democracy that our Founding Fathers preserved it in the First Amendment to the Constitution. Yet, my Democratic colleagues reserved H.R. 5, one of their top five priorities during the 116th Congress, for legislation to silence free speech and independent thought, all while victimizing people of faith.
I also participated in a special order to speak in support of the Republican Study Committee’s FY2020 Budget: Preserving American Freedom – while my Democratic colleagues have yet to submit a budget this year.
We need more fiscal responsibility in Washington – and the RSC Fiscal Year 2020 budget delivers just that. This budget fosters a rewarding environment for economic growth and job creation and provides $12.6 trillion in total deficit reduction over ten years, balancing by 2025.
Additionally, with over seven million available jobs throughout the nation, our workforce needs are becoming more and more dire. This budget prioritizes moving Americans off the sidelines and back into the workforce, rewarding work and promoting innovation.
I was honored to join President Trump and many of my colleagues at the White House Rose Garden as the President unveiled his plan to modernize our legal immigration system for the needs of the 21st Century.
I believe our immigration system is broken and it is critical that we come together to find a solution for the safety and security of all Americans.
The House Education and Labor Committee marked up multiple pieces of legislation to address racial discrimination and increase diversity in schools.
Unfortunately, Democrats’ positive intentions have resulted in shortsighted legislation. As the Senior Republican on the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee, I offered a substitute amendment to allow school districts to use funds as they see fit to improve diversity and eliminate isolation in early childhood programs.
Additionally, the House Agriculture Committee’s Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee held a hearing to “Review USDA Farm Bill Conservation Programs.”
Farmers and ranchers are true conservationists, and I asked our panel about the obstacles they face when attempting to adopt new practices that have been encouraged on their land. Thank you for your input!
On Tuesday, I proudly signed a discharge petition to force a vote on legislation that demonstrates Congress’ long-standing support of Israel.
H.R. 336, the Strengthening America's Security in the Middle East Act, is a four-bill package that bolsters the U.S.- Israel security relationship, extends U.S.-Jordan defense cooperation, imposes sanctions against individuals providing support for the Syrian government, and combats the harmful BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement, allowing states and localities to be protected if they divest from entities that boycott Israel. Israel is one of our strongest and most steadfast partners, and we must continue to stand against hatred and anti-Semitism. I say to Speaker Pelosi – let us vote!
I had great meetings with Dr. Ralph Harding of the Carl Vinson VA in Dublin, the Georgia Association of Realtors, and Augusta Oncology, to mention a few.
Thanks for stopping by!
This week, my office was thrilled to welcome our first round of summer interns to Team Allen.
During their first week, they have already been a tremendous help—thanks for your service on behalf of the 12th District!
I also announced Community Office Hours for the month of June, which kick off on June 4th!
My staff and I stand ready to help with issues experienced at the federal level and I am pleased to offer this opportunity for my office to provide constituents direct assistance closer to home. For the full list of dates, times, and locations, just visit my website at allen.house.gov.
As many of you know, in December of 2017, President Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the rightful capital of Israel and directed the State Department to begin preparation to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a decision that I fully supported.
This week, we celebrated the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Embassy opening in Jerusalem, and I’d like to highlight H. Res. 324, a resolution that Congressman Ted Lieu from California and I introduced, reaffirming the importance of the United States’ economic relationship with Israel.
This resolution highlights the many ways that U.S.-Israel economic cooperation has benefited both countries, including encouraging technological innovation and scientific advancement.
The significance of our nation’s strong and meaningful economic relationship with the state of Israel cannot be overlooked. As one of our most beloved allies, we must continue to stand in solidarity with this beacon of democracy.
Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Sincerely,
Rick W. Allen
