this week in washington...

The U.S. House of Representatives formally convened for the second session of the 115th Congress at the beginning of the week.

I am excited to be back in Washington and ready to tackle important legislative issues in the new year!

I had the opportunity to attend the Cyber Center of Excellence New Years Reception hosted by Fort Gordon’s General Morrison.

I will continue to work to deliver legislative wins for our military to help all of our service members in Georgia-12.

President Trump addressed the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual convention on Monday – making him the first president to do so since George H.W. Bush in 1992.

“As a Representative from Georgia, where agriculture is the number one industry in both my district and my state, I am grateful for President Trump's focus on rural America. Our hardworking farmers and rural communities have felt forgotten by past presidents, but with the Trump Administration’s support, I believe the best is yet to come.”

“I am also proud to see two Georgia-grown agriculture leaders, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall, at the forefront of the push for rural prosperity. Their strong advocacy at the national level is spurring positive change for rural Americans across this great nation. Together, we will all work to ensure rural America is not forgotten.”

He also signed an executive order calling for expanded access to rural broadband – a critical issue for many of my constituents.

“In today’s world, broadband is not a luxury, but rather a necessity for folks to compete. Every time I travel the district, Georgians tell me why they need accessible and affordable rural broadband in their homes, schools, and businesses….I want to thank President Trump and Secretary Perdue for their continued support of rural communities, and I look forward to further addressing this issue in the upcoming Farm Bill.”

I also thanked President Trump for placing a spotlight on rural America on the House Floor.

Tuesday was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day – please join me in thanking the brave men and women in blue who keep us safe each and every day.
