This Week Serving Georgia's 12th District
|
After weeks of Republicans calling out the Democrats’ impeachment sham and the fact that the full House hadn’t voted on a formal inquiry, Speaker Pelosi finally brought a vote to the House floor to authorize the formal impeachment inquiry. I voted against this resolution that empowers Democrats and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff to continue with their unfair and closed-door impeachment process.
This is a desperate attempt to legitimize their secretive process, even though they are denying the President due process and blocking members of Congress from receiving any information. I will not stop fighting against this impeachment sham.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic Division announced it will proceed with the removal of the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam and move forward with Alternative 2-6D, which was simulated in February 2019 with disastrous results.
Effects of Alternative 2-6D
Since the day the Corps announced their plans to remove the Lock and Dam and replace it with a rock weir, Congressman Joe Wilson and I have fought their decision tooth and nail – and warned the Corps that it will not be able to maintain the pool, as required under federal law. Read my joint statement with Congressman Wilson.
I spoke on the House floor in support of reauthorizing the Older Americans Act.
This legislation supports many community-based services and programs important to Georgia’s seniors, including Meals on Wheels. I’m proud to share that the bill passed the House with unanimous, bipartisan support.
The House Education and Labor Committee marked up the Democrats’ partisan and costly Higher Education bill.
I introduced two amendments that would prevent illegal immigrants from profiting off of hard-working Americans’ tax dollars. Unfortunately, Democrats blocked my amendments from being adopted. As a member of the committee, I could not support this bill that would only widen the skills gaps, harm our country’s economy, and prioritize illegal immigrants over taxpayers.
The House Agriculture Committee approved bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, or CFTC.
The CFTC is an independent government agency and is responsible for ensuring our financial markets are fair, competitive and transparent for consumers and the general public. This bill reauthorizes the CFTC for five years and contains provisions that will enable CFTC to make cutting edge technological advancements.
Dr. Robert Mayes of Georgia Southern University and I met.
During our meeting, we were able to discuss the importance of STEM – or science, technology, engineering and mathematics – education. STEM is a growing field and plays a vital role in our state and nation’s economy.
Robin and I joined the United Service Organizations, or USO, to help assemble care packages for our U.S. service members who are overseas.
I enjoyed my time assembling care packages that will provide 2,000 deployed service members with a connection to home as they serve away from their families. I will always support our service members.
Members of AIPAC provided me with an update on the ongoing threats to Israel’s borders.
Israel is our strongest ally in the region and continues to face ongoing security challenges. I appreciate the work AIPAC does to highlight these issues, and I will always stand with our partner in democracy.
REMINDER: The deadline for students to enter the 2019 Congressional App Challenge is TODAY.
The deadline for middle and high school students in Georgia’s 12th District to submit the app they create and be entered into the 2019 Congressional App Challenge is today. The winner will be highlighted in the U.S. Capitol. Visit my website for more info.
ICYMI: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic Division announced they will delay a massive fee increase for next year’s dock and land-based facility permits until they conduct a more thorough review.
As soon as I learned about the dock fee increases, which were proposed with no input from the public and scheduled to go into effect shortly after the announcement, I took action along with several members of the Georgia delegation. This decision comes after months of members of Congress demanding answers.
I hope everyone had a fun Halloween!
I might be biased, but I think my grandchildren had the best costumes.
In September, our nation learned of one of the most horrific acts against our nation’s most vulnerable when more than 2,200 unborn children were discovered on the abortionist Ulrich Klopfer’s property in Illinois.
Every life is precious and worthy of dignity and respect, and no human remains should ever be disposed with such disregard. That’s why I am an original co-sponsor of H.R. 4934, Dignity for Aborted Children Act. This legislation would hold abortion providers accountable, and ensure they treat fetal remains with the dignity that every baby deserves.
Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Sincerely,
Rick Allen
