this week serving georgia's 12th district...

I hope you all had a joyous and safe Labor Day Weekend and were able to spend some much-deserved time with your loved ones.

As we returned to Washington this week after the August Work Period, I attended and delivered my opening statement at the first meeting of the 2018 Farm Bill Conference Committee.

[Our first] meeting of the 2018 Farm Bill Conference Committee was about members of the House and Senate coming together to discuss some of the underlying priorities that we hope to maintain in the final version of the bill. With the current farm bill set to expire on September 30, it is critical that we work in a timely, but diligent manner throughout this process. We must deliver certainty and a strong safety net for our farming families across America, as well as make strides to get America back to work. I am looking forward to working with all of my colleagues on the conference committee over the next few weeks as we negotiate a bold and effective farm bill for President Trump to sign into law.

The House Education and Workforce Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development held a hearing titled: “On-The-Job: Rebuilding the Workforce Through Apprenticeships.”

With over 6 million available jobs throughout our country, I was able to ask the panel about how we can effectively increase exposure to skilled trades for young students. To view my questions during the hearing, please CLICK HERE.

The House passed H.R. 1635, the Empowering Students Through Enhanced Financial Counseling Act, with overwhelming bipartisan support. This critical legislation addresses the student loan crisis that affects so many of our young people today. With student loan debt climbing over $1.5 trillion nationwide, we must do more to ensure students are aware of the financial obligations that come with accepting a federal student loan – and requiring yearly loan consultations with students and parents is a step in the right direction.

I was pleased to speak in support of the Empowering Students Through Enhanced Financial Counseling Act on the House floor.

I also offered an amendment to H.R. 1635 that would allow institutions to provide additional financial counseling above what is already provided for in the bill.

My amendment passed by unanimous consent and was included in the final legislation!

I had great meetings in my D.C. office with MEAG Power, AIPAC, and the National Auctioneers Association to discuss some the issues that are most important to them and how I can assist at the federal level.

Thank you all for stopping by.

The August jobs report was released today and our economy is continuing to grow at significant levels. Our pro-America, pro-growth policy agenda is working for the American people and we aren't done yet!

Tomorrow, I will be hosting the Georgia-12 Fall Academy Day at Augusta University.

As many young people begin thinking about their future, I am honored to host an Academy Day for Georgia-12 constituents who are interested in attending one of our five service academies. This great event offers a special opportunity for young men and women from Georgia’s 12th District to receive an academy overview and learn more about the application and nomination process from admissions liaisons who will be in attendance. I am looking forward to hosting this year’s event and meeting many of the bright individuals who are interested in serving our country and hoping to learn more about our honorable service academies.

Community Office Hours for the month of September are now underway! Constituent service is a top priority of mine, and my staff and I stand ready to help with issues at the federal level. Community Office Hours offer the opportunity for my office to provide constituents personal assistance on a wide array of federal issues such as Social Security, Veterans Affairs, Medicare, and others, in their local communities.
