so far this october work period...

Farmers continue to serve as the backbone of our rural economy and the heart of Georgia's number one industry. Today, during these trying times, it is more important now than ever to thank and support our farmers wholeheartedly in the midst of Hurricane Michael's aftermath.

As we focus on recovery efforts, Robin and I are continuing to pray for all of those affected. Please take a look at the following helpful tips from FEMA as well as USDA’s efforts to provide assistance to those who have experienced loss.

1. Stay alert.  Follow guidance from local officials, and do not return home until you are told it is safe.

2. Expect disruptions.  Be prepared for power and phone service outages, roads blocked by flood and/or debris, water and sewer outages.

3. Be careful during clean-up.  Wear protective clothing like waterproof boots and gloves, wash your hands often, and work in teams.

4. Start the recovery process.  If you have insurance, and it’s safe to return home, call your insurance company to file a claim. Take photos and videos of all damages before you start cleaning up.

I joined my fellow Members of the Georgia Delegation in sending a letter to President Trump requesting expedited emergency resources to aid counties in Georgia that were impacted by Hurricane Michael, and I am thankful that President Trump approved Georgia’s emergency declaration in a timely manner.

I visited with some of our farmers in the district to assess some of the damage from Hurricane Michael and will continue to work diligently with constituents and federal agencies throughout the relief and recovery process.

During Georgia Pre-K Week, I visited Lake Forest Hills Elementary in Augusta as the guest reader for many smiling, young scholars.

Georgia Pre-K Week was launched to raise awareness about the importance of a quality early childhood education by providing opportunities for community leaders to engage with Pre-K classrooms in Georgia. It is humbling to see so many young students with a passion to learn and I thank our state and local communities for being at the forefront of this great effort.

I also spoke to a group of high school students at Trinity Christian School about my work as their Congressman on behalf of Georgia’s 12th district.

I joined some of the great employees at UPS where I was able to grab a uniform, hit the road, and make some deliveries to a number of valued customers throughout our community.

Thanks for showing me some of your day-to-day operations that keep your many dedicated customers so happy!

I also attended the Augusta Kiwanis meeting.

I always enjoy seeing so many familiar faces and I thank them for their continued dedication to improving our local community.

I spoke at the Claxton Quarterly Chamber Luncheon about tax reform, our red-hot economy, and my work on the House Education and Workforce Committee.

Then, I headed over to the Canoochee EMC Annual Members Meeting.

Canoochee EMC serves parts of nine rural southeast Georgia counties and provides an invaluable service as they “light up a little piece of the South.”

As U.S. Army Cyber Command continues the transition to Fort Gordon, I was honored to speak at a “Road to Gordon” Townhall at Fort Belvoir.

Augusta is experiencing tremendous growth as a result of U.S. Army Cyber Command’s transition, and I was humbled to speak about the Augusta area, all of its amenities, the supportive community, and my personal experience growing up and raising a family in the area. I look forward to welcoming many of the service members, civilians, and industry leaders who currently work at Fort Belvoir to Georgia-12!

The CSRA Leadership group was in Washington for their D.C. fly-in, and because I was in the district, I connected with them via Skype!

I continued the conversation about the growth that Georgia’s 12th district is experiencing, as well as my work on the House Education and Workforce Committee to ensure that we have a qualified workforce that is ready to fill the nearly seven million available jobs throughout our country.

In my Augusta office, I had a great meeting with Jim Franklin on behalf of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by the office and for your continued work advocating for extensive diabetes research.

Before heading to the district, I also welcomed Lauren Maddux to my D.C. office before her tour of the U.S. Capitol.
