Biden DOJ Announces Political Lawsuit to Overturn Georgia's Election Law

Democrats are desperate to halt states’ constitutional changes to ensure integrity in their election systems. The U.S. Department of Justice announced this week a federal lawsuit in opposition to Georgia’s Election Integrity Act, which comes just days after Senate Republicans blocked Democrats’ number one legislative priority, the For the People Act, from moving forward. This lawsuit is a political move by the Biden Administration on their quest to implement a federal takeover of our elections.

It is unconscionable that Attorney General Garland is willing to weaponize the DOJ and ignore the will of states, Congress and the American people who overwhelmingly support voter ID.

Holding China Accountable

If the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had been transparent about COVID-19, lives could’ve been saved. Despite Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats’ refusal to launch an investigation or take any meaningful action into investigating the origins of COVID-19, I’m proud that House Republicans are stepping up to the plate.

Holding CCP Accountable

This week, Republicans announced that we will hold our own hearing to probe the origins of COVID-19. Additionally, GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy announced our eight-step action plan to hold China accountable that will deliver transparency and justice. Our plan includes:

  1. Declassifying intelligence related to the origins of COVID-19
  2. Prohibiting gain of function research in and with China
  3. Prohibiting National Institutes of Health funding to foreign governments intent on harming the U.S. and our allies
  4. Overhauling the World Health Organization (WHO) and launching a counterintelligence investigation
  5. Investigating and utilizing existing authorities
  6. Restricting visas and imposing economic sanctions on those associated with the CCP or WHO, who participated in the COVID-19 coverup
  7. Waiving Chinese sovereign immunity to allow families who died of COVID-19 to file suits against the Chinese government for damages
  8. Relocating the 24th Olympic Winter Games out of Beijing

Fighting For School Choice

This week the House Education and Labor Committee held a hearing with U.S. Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona. During the hearing I shared new data that confirms overwhelming and bipartisan support for school choice, and I asked if the Biden Administration would commit to working with Congress to implement school choice. *Spoiler* - He said he would rather prioritize schools over students.

Cardona Hearing

I will continue to fight for families and ensure every family, regardless of zip code or resources, has access to more education options that best meet their child’s needs.

Ensuring Retirement Security

This week, the House Education and Labor’s Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee, of which I am the Lead Republican, held a hearing on retirement security. Retirement security is an area in which we can reach some bipartisan agreement; however, earlier this year, my Democrat colleagues continued to double down on failed pension arrangements. As Republican Leader, I highlighted that Americans know best how to save and spend their own money, and reminded them that taxpayers shouldn't bail out failing multiemployer pensions because unions mismanaged their pension plans.

I believe we can and should work on bipartisan reforms to meet the retirement security needs of Americans. You can read my opening statement here.

Democrats Pass Bill Benefitting Special Interest Lawyers Over Employees

This week, the House passed the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act, which does nothing to actually protect older workers but exploits them to advance a pro-trial lawyer agenda. The bill opens the door to more frivolous lawsuits and overturns Supreme Court precedent by allowing “mixed-motive” claims to argue that age was only a motivating, not decisive, factor that led to an employer’s unfavorable employment action.

GAO Amendment

I offered a simple amendment that would ensure this legislation is actually needed by requiring the Government Accountability Office to analyze if individuals have been discouraged from filing claims before the bill can go into effective – but my Democrat colleagues rejected it.

On the Air: All Ag, All Day

All Ag All Day

I joined Tony St. James on All Ag, All Day to discuss a range of topics related to my work on the House Agriculture Committee including lumber prices, workforce shortages and more. You can listen to the full interview here.

House Agriculture Subcommittee Hearing on the Farm Safety Net

This week, the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management held its first hearing this Congress to provide oversight of the implementation of the 2018 Farm Bill. Food security is a matter of national security – in order to remain independent and free of influence from other countries, we must be self-sustainable. This includes supporting our farmers with a strong safety net both so that they can plan for the future, and so that farmland remains in production.

Under Republican leadership we made great strides to improve and modernize our domestic agriculture policy in the 2018 Farm Bill, and I look forward to holding more hearings this Congress to ensure that our farm programs are working to support our producers.

New Data Confirms Georgia Leads in Economic Recovery

New data compiled by the Federal Reserve confirms that Republican-led states like Georgia are leading the way in economic recovery. 12 out of 15 states with Republican governors have returned to pre-pandemic levels.

I thank Governor Kemp for his leadership in reopening our state early, and encouraging Georgians to get back to work by ending the enhanced federal unemployment benefits, which, as a reminder, becomes effective Saturday, June 26th.

The brave men and women in our military all wear the same flag on their uniform and make an oath to work together to protect these United States. Critical Race Theory teaches the opposite of these principles -- it’s a divisive ideology that teaches Americans that our country is evil.

That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor H.R. 3754, the Military Education and Values Act. This legislation bans Critical Race Theory, or any other teaching methodology that promotes or causes a racial divide or lack of unity, from being taught in the military.
