Touring the Bon Air Apartments

.

When residents of the Bon Air Apartments in Augusta contacted my office about poor living conditions there, we reached out to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to request a formal investigation.

Last week, officials from HUD accompanied me on a tour of the Bon Air. While there, we spoke with the property managers, who have committed to bring the property up to par.

As your Congressman, I will continue working to ensure all residents of our district have safe and secure housing.

Prioritizing rural broadband

.

This week, I spoke about the importance of expanding broadband internet access and cell service in rural communities during an Agriculture Committee hearing.

This Congress, I co-sponsored the Broadband for Rural America Act and the RURAL Broadband Mapping Act, both of which would help bring reliable, high-speed internet access to rural communities in Georgia and nationwide.

Building a modern workforce

This week, I spoke about the harmful provisions of House Democrats’ PRO Act during an Education & Labor Committee hearing about union organizing. The PRO Act would eliminate Right-to-Work laws currently active in 27 states, including Georgia, and could force workers to pay union dues or lose their jobs.

.

I also spoke about my and Senator Tim Scott's (R-SC) Republican solution to modernize our labor laws, the Employee Rights Act. This bill provides workers and small business owners with the stability and flexibility they need to participate in the modern economy.

On the heels of Labor Day, I penned an Op-Ed on the important provisions of this bill. You can learn more about the Employee Rights Act in my latest Op-Ed, available here.

Inflation rises to 8.3% in August

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released figures indicating that inflation has now risen 8.3% over the last year. The Biden administration’s reckless tax-and-spend policies are driving costs higher and destroying consumer confidence – making it harder for Georgia families to make ends meet. I am fighting to eliminate wasteful spending so the American people can start rebuilding the world’s greatest economy.

Recognizing local Red Cross heroes

.

On Tuesday, I attended the American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast in Augusta to recognize members of our community who have dedicated themselves to helping others. I am pictured here with Community Hero award winners, Props & Heroes, who visit children's hospitals in-costume!

As a former member of the local Red Cross Board of Directors, I was glad to show my support for the excellent work our neighbors are doing to make a difference.

Credit companies move to track gun purchases

.

My House Republican colleagues and I sent a letter to credit card companies this week, demanding answers on their plans to introduce a special merchant code to monitor and track legal firearm purchases.

As a staunch supporter of our Second Amendment, I oppose this plan as it would pave the way to a nationwide gun registry.

U.S. troops facing discharge over vaccine mandate

Despite the military being in a recruiting crisis, tens of thousands of soldiers are facing discharge over the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. In response, my colleagues and I wrote to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin this week, urging him to immediately revoke this harmful mandate and focus instead on military readiness.

Democrats' inflation bill puts Georgia manufacturers last

Georgia’s entire House Republican delegation teamed up to write an Op-Ed for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the so-called Inflation Reduction Act. This bill is simply another bloated Democrat spending package that fails to meaningfully address inflation and instead deals Georgia manufacturers a devastating blow.

Georgia Automobile Dealers Association

.

Members of the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association visited the office this week to discuss legislation that my colleagues and I are working on to address supply chain disruptions and rising costs.
