The CCP's Olympics As people around the world are watching the Winter Olympics in Beijing, our adversaries like China, Russia and Iran are watching the U.S. closely to see if we will stand for America’s interests and hold malign actors accountable. China has a long history of human rights abuses, and even Olympic athletes are reporting the poor living conditions at the games while being subject to a police state. That is why I am a proud cosponsor of the GENOCIDE GAMES Act, a bill that would impose sanctions on officials of the International Olympic Committee if any athlete, fan, or participant disappears, becomes detained or is deprived of internationally recognized human rights.  Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats have failed to take any meaningful action to thwart the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and instead passed a partisan bill last week that does more to reward their bad behavior.

The CCP's Olympics

As people around the world are watching the Winter Olympics in Beijing, our adversaries like China, Russia and Iran are watching the U.S. closely to see if we will stand for America’s interests and hold malign actors accountable.

China bills

Democrats rejected hundreds of commonsense Republican amendments in their 3,000+ page bill, including my American Science First Act to prohibit the National Science Foundation from providing grants to any individual or entity that is affiliated or has a relationship with a Chinese Communist Military Company. Congress has a duty to protect taxpayer dollars by closing current loopholes the CCP can exploit to gain access to American research.

I will keep up the fight to hold the CCP accountable, which is why I’m proud to cosponsor the Republican Study Committee’s Countering Communist China Act, the most comprehensive piece of legislation to hold the CCP accountable for COVID-19, strengthen our military, sanction and increase law enforcement capabilities to counter CCP threats, modernize U.S. law to stop intellectual property theft, and more.

Fighting for Independent Workers

The Biden Administration is once again trying to skirt around Congress, this time at the expense of America’s independent contractors. The Democrat-controlled National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is set to rewrite the classification standard for independent contractors, which would jeopardize the livelihoods of workers and their families.

That’s why this week I joined Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Banks and Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx in leading an amicus brief urging the Board to uphold over 50 years of precedent and stand with the millions of rideshare drivers, graphic designers, technology experts, and other independent contractors across many industries whose entrepreneurial spirit fuels our nation. You can read our brief here.

Focusing on Fuel and Food Prices

ag conservation and forestry hearing

The House Agriculture Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee held a hearing to review Farm Bill Conservation Programs. Unfortunately, my Democrat colleagues talked primarily about climate change, but as I highlighted, the reason for our farm bill is to ensure that we have adequate food supply for this country and that it be efficient and safe. At a time when we see empty grocery store shelves and prices for everything continue to skyrocket, we must focus on these important issues.

This week we saw another terrible inflation report, with the Consumer Price Index surging 7.5% over the last year, marking a 40 year high. The rising prices of everyday goods and services continue to hurt working families, and Congress must pass policies that will help Americans keep more of their hard-earned paychecks.

That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor H.R. 6658, the Protecting Family and Small Business Tax Cuts Act, which would make the tax cuts passed under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent.

As always, my office is here to help. You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram
