This Week in Georgia's 12th District |
Congress has been out of session the past two weeks, and I have enjoyed spending time in Georgia’s 12th District hearing from constituents.
I read to students at Wheeler Pines of the Bradley Schools in recognition of Georgia Pre-K Week.
Georgia Pre-K Week celebrates our state’s quality early childhood education programs. As the Senior Republican on the House Education and Labor Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, one of my priorities is to ensure our students have opportunities to succeed from early learning throughout their high school careers.
It was great to witness the dedication of “One Gallant Stand” in downtown Sylvania.
This Revolutionary War mural depicts the Battle of Brier Creek in Georgia. I’m grateful to have witnessed this dedication and am thankful for the work being done to preserve East Georgia’s history.
The Georgia Association of Broadcasters and I met.
Thank you for taking the time to discuss issues important to broadcasting. I appreciate the work our broadcasters do to share the news and keep our communities informed.
I caught up with Austin Rhodes on WGAC.
It’s always great to visit the WGAC studio and discuss issues important to Augusta. During my interview, I gave an update on House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry into President Trump. I believe House Democrats are trying to find any opportunity to undermine his presidency and I strongly oppose their impeachment efforts.
ICYMI: I joined WJBF and provided an update on the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam.
During my interview, I discussed the recent Independent External Peer Review Report and their concerning findings that I and my fellow community members have highlighted throughout this process. Congressman Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) and I recently sent a letter to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic Division to express our displeasure with the lack of options to solve this issue while maintaining current pool levels. You can watch the full interview here.
The Minnick family from Evans visited my Washington, D.C. office and received a tour of the Capitol.
If you or your family are ever in D.C. and would like help coordinating a tour, my office is here to help. We can assist with tours of the U.S. Capitol, White House, Supreme Court and more. You can access the tour request form here or by visiting my website.
The 2019 Congressional App Challenge is open for middle and high school students.
All current middle and high school students who reside in or attend school in the 12th Congressional District are encouraged to participate in this nationwide competition. Students can create a software application, or “app,” for web, PC, tablet, mobile, or other platform of their choice. The winning app will be featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website and displayed in a U.S. Capitol exhibit. The deadline for students to submit their app is November 1, 2019. To register, please visit https://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/students/student-registration/ or contact my Augusta office.
Stay connected by signing up to receive a call during future Telephone Town Halls. Please note: under the rules of the House of Representatives, only constituents of Georgia's Twelfth Congressional District are able to participate in Telephone Town Halls.
