All Around GA-12

It’s been a busy few weeks around Georgia’s 12th District, but hearing directly from you helps me to serve you better in Congress. Here are some of the highlights:

In Effingham County

It was great to be back in Effingham County, where I had the opportunity to stop by Rotary Club and catch up with members.

I was also able to visit the Effingham Chamber of Commerce and meet CEO Andrew Cripps, who began leading the Chamber earlier this year.

Touring the Bulloch County Senior Center

Thank you to Executive Director Bryan Singleton for giving me a tour of the Senior Center and providing me with an update on your operations and how you are keeping seniors safe during this time.

Visiting the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam

I recently had the opportunity to visit the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam with Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02), the new U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic Division Commander, Col. Jason Kelly, and other local officials.

It was an open discussion, and I am very optimistic that we will be able to come to a solution that works for the communities and will maintain the pool level as required by law.

Visiting Treutlen and Wheeler County Schools

Thanks to Treutlen and Wheeler County Schools for hosting me to see firsthand the protocols implemented to combat COVID-19 and to keep students, teachers and staff safe.

It’s been a challenging year, but I’m so proud of schools throughout the 12th District for prioritizing the education and future of our students.

Meeting with the Montgomery County Government Authority

I had the privilege of meeting with the Montgomery County Government Authority and Executive Director Joe Filippone to receive an update on their work. I also had the opportunity to meet local entrepreneurs.

Coffee with the Congressman in Vidalia

I hosted a coffee with local officials and community leaders in Toombs and Montgomery counties to provide a congressional update and hear about issues impacting these communities.

Claxton Rotary Club

Congressman Allen and Terry Branch, Mayor of Claxton

It’s always great to be in Claxton! I was able to stop by the Rotary Club and share a brief update before talking with club members and Mayor Branch.

Visiting Evans Memorial Hospital

While I was in Claxton, I also had the privilege of meeting Evans Memorial Hospital CEO Bill Lee and saw their new renovations.

Small Business Guardian Award

As a small businessman, it’s truly an honor to be recognized as a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business. This award is given to members of Congress who have a strong, pro-small business voting record. I know this year has been tough on our small businesses, and I promise to keep fighting for vital relief!

Visiting the Innovation Incubator in Metter

It was a privilege to visit the Innovation Incubator in Metter. This partnership between Georgia Southern University’s Business Innovation Group, the City of Metter, and Georgia Grown helps agribusinesses get off the ground.

Medicare Open Enrollment

ICYMI: The 2021 Medicare Open Enrollment has kicked off with historically low premiums and a new insulin benefit. If you’re one of more than 60 million Americans with Medicare, you can review plans and make changes to your healthcare coverage for next year through December 7, 2020. You can learn more here.

Operation Warp Speed Update

This week, the Department of Health and Human Services announced a partnership with CVS and Walgreens to provide and administer COVID-19 vaccines to vulnerable Americans in long-term care facilities nationwide with no out-of-pocket costs. While there are no vaccines currently authorized by the FDA, the Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program is being established in anticipation that one or more COVID-19 vaccines will be available before the end of the year.

National Drug Take Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this weekend on October 24th. Hosted by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), this is an opportunity for Americans to dispose of unused or expired medications. Last October, 882,919 pounds of prescription drugs were collected. Together we can all do our part to combat the opioid crisis in our nation. For more info and to find a collection site near you, click here.

As always, my office is here to help. You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Sincerely,
