Biden's Border Crisis Continues

.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), there were 156,274 illegal crossings at our southern border last month, making it the worst January for border security in over 20 years.

There is an undeniable crisis occurring along our southern border and the policies of this administration have only made things worse. I went to the border this week alongside my colleagues on the House Energy and Commerce Committee to assess the situation firsthand.

The brave men and women of our border patrol are facing an unprecedented challenge, and Congress and this Administration must provide them with the tools they need to keep our country safe.

Energy and Commerce Committee Travels to Texas

.

Addressing the Border Crisis

Our first stop was in McAllen, TX, where I participated in a joint hearing of the Subcommittees on Health and Oversight and Investigations to examine the public health crisis unfolding at the southern border. The hearing also focused on the flow of illicit fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances into the United States.

We heard testimony from agents on the ground who confirmed that the Biden administration has hamstrung their efforts by eliminating Trump-era policies without a plan of their own.

After the hearing, my colleagues and I joined CBP personnel on a tour of the southern border, where we surveyed portions of the Rio Grande Valley sector.

Unleashing American Energy

Our committee then traveled to Midland, TX, one of the most prolific oil and natural gas-producing regions in the entire world. While there, I participated in a hearing of the Energy Subcommittee focused on how domestic energy expansion can benefit local economies and communities.

I spoke about the prosperity and strength the United States experienced only a few short years ago when Republicans used our constitutional authority to jumpstart domestic energy production and roll back burdensome regulations from the Obama administration.

Inflation Reaches 6.4% in January

.

This week, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released a new Consumer Price Index (CPI) report showing that inflation has increased by 6.4% since last January.

President Biden's reckless spending and anti-energy agenda are driving prices higher across the board. As a result, the American people are paying more for everything from gas to groceries.

It is time for President Biden to take responsibility for the catastrophic results of his disastrous policies, reverse course, and stop trying to run the economy from the White House.

Supporting American Entrepreneurs

.

Earlier this week, I joined Renetta DuBose from WJBF to talk about the Startup Act, bipartisan legislation I introduced to support American entrepreneurs by expanding access to programs that offer training and resources to individuals seeking to start their own business.

Wrightsville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce

.

I recently attended the Wrightsville-Johnson County Chamber of Commerce's annual gathering. It was a pleasure to spend time with members of the community to celebrate all that makes our area special.

Screven County Farm Bureau

.

I spoke at the Screven County Farm Bureau's Legislative Breakfast, where I discussed the upcoming Farm Bill and pressing issues that matter to our farmers and growers.
