This week, in a rare act of bipartisanship, the House unanimously passed legislation to posthumously award Congressional Gold Medals to the brave 13 U.S. service members who were killed in a bombing outside the Kabul Airport in Afghanistan this August.

I was proud to be an original cosponsor of the bill to honor them with the highest award granted by Congress. We will never forget their names, service and sacrifice so others may know freedom.

Exposing Democrats’ Socialist Agenda
|
Democrats continue to push their socialist tax and spend bill that will only make our nation’s current supply chain and economic crisis worse. I recently spoke on the House floor exposing what’s included in their trillion dollar proposal, including taxpayer funded abortions, free college aid for illegal immigrants, an increase of up to $700,000 in penalties for business that fail to implement the vaccine mandate, burdensome new taxes, and much more.
You also are probably aware of a proposal to radically expand the IRS, which is a priority for the Biden Administration under this tax and spend budget proposal. In fact, the proposal counts on expanding the IRS to collect $400 billion more from the American people in order to pay for the big government priorities by giving agents unprecedented access to the bank accounts of millions of Americans. I recently joined over 200 members of Congress in demanding the Biden Administration rescind this ridiculous proposal. Empowering the IRS to audit Americans is one of the worst provisions within the tax and spending bill being jammed through with costly, socialist policies that I will not support.

Opening of Gate 6 at Fort Gordon
|
After years in the making, it was an honor to participate in the official opening of Gate 6 at Fort Gordon. This new gate, along with all the new construction on and around Fort Gordon, has created a significant number of jobs in the area – boosting our local economy.
It’s a privilege to play a part in helping to secure funding for Gate 6 and other ongoing construction projects that will help our soldiers conduct their critical security missions.

Associated Builders & Contractors of Georgia’s Eagle Award
|
Thanks to the Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia for honoring me with the Eagle Award in recognition of my strong voting record in Congress. With my background in construction, I know firsthand how federal policies impact the industry and I will continue to support job creators in Georgia.

Opposing Vaccine Mandates
|
I had the opportunity to participate in the House Education and Labor’s Joint Workforce Protections and Civil Rights Subcommittee Hearing on vaccine requirements and employee accommodations. I highlighted how one-size-fits-all, top-down government mandates do not work and that we cannot protect the livelihoods of American workers if they are being fired from their jobs over a personal health choice.
In fact, many skilled workers are leaving their jobs due to vaccine mandates. I’ve heard from federal contractors in the 12th District over this issue, which is why I joined several of my colleagues in South Carolina in asking the Biden Administration’s Energy Secretary Granholm about any plans to address the mandate’s impact on our nuclear and environmental security workforce, including any potential impacts at the Savannah River Site. You can read our letter here.

Demanding the Safe Return of U.S. Missionaries Kidnapped in Haiti
|
On October 16, 2021, 17 missionaries – including 5 children – were kidnapped by a gang in Haiti. No American should fear for their lives or feel abandoned by their government while serving others overseas. It is critical that the Biden Administration sends a clear message this will not be tolerated. That’s why I joined Rep. Jody Hice (GA-10) and several of our House colleague in urging the administration to use the full weight of the U.S. government to ensure they safely return home.
I also joined the Family Research Council’s Washington Watch program to discuss this and other important issues facing our nation. You can watch here.

Meeting with National Cotton Council
|
I welcomed Kent Fountain with the National Cotton Council (NCC) to my D.C. office this week. Kent is a cotton farmer from the 12th District who is the current chairman of the NCC. We had a great discussion on the state of U.S. cotton, including commodity prices, rising input costs, and the current supply chain disruptions and what we are doing to alleviate these issues.

I held a telephone town hall to answer questions from residents of GA-12 and to provide an update on Democrats’ tax and spend bill, immigration, vaccine mandates, and more. For those who were unable to participate in the call, here are some of the highlights.

Across the country, Americans are paying more at the gas pump as costs for everything continue to rise. This is a result of the Biden Administration’s policies that have crippled America’s domestic energy production all while benefiting foreign producers. To make matters worse, Democrats are pushing a natural gas tax that would increase the average family’s energy bill by 17 percent.
That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor H.Res.754, expressing my strong opposition to punitive natural gas taxes on United States businesses, families, and workers. The hardworking men and women of this nation simply cannot afford another tax.
As always, my office is here to help. You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
