Georgia has dramatically increased testing capacity, and huge thanks goes out to Augusta University (AU) Health for leading the way. Not only has AU developed their own COVID-19 test that yields results in 48 hours, they have also created a free app that allows anyone in the state to meet with a provider and receive an initial telehealth exam.
After receiving an initial exam, if necessary, the provider can make a referral for a COVID-19 test and the Georgia National Guard will call and schedule an appointment at the closest drive up testing site to the patient’s home. Results will be made available through the app in 36-72 hours.
As all levels of government continue to respond to the coronavirus outbreak, I want to share the below information to make sure you have the most up-to-date information:
Small Business Relief
Last week, the House passed and President Trump signed into law the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act. This legislation provides additional funds for the successful Paycheck Protection Program, which provides forgivable loans to cover the cost of payroll and operating expenses for up to eight weeks.
This week, the Small Business Administration (SBA) resumed accepting applications from participating lenders. If you are a small business owner who would benefit from these funds, contact your lender to access these funds immediately. You can also visit sba.gov/paycheckprotection for more information.
Economic Impact Payments
The IRS has formally launched the "Get My Payment" web portal with features to let taxpayers check on the status of their Economic Impact Payment and update direct deposit information. The portal, and FAQs, can be accessed here: irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.
A note for non-filers with dependents: If you receive SS retirement benefits, survivor benefits, or disability benefits and SSI, and you do not have a qualifying child under the age of 17, you will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment and do not need to take any further action.
If you receive SSI and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, or are a veteran or student who uses the GI Bill to claim dependents, you must submit your Non-Filer form by Tuesday, May 5th, which you can access here. If you fail to provide the IRS with further information by then, you will only receive a $1,200 payment, which will not include the additional $500 for each eligible child.
ICYMI: I held a telephone town hall to provide an update and answer questions from constituents about the coronavirus.
During the call I gave an update on the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act, Economic Impact Payments, and more. If you were unable to participate, here are some of the highlights.
