Laken Riley Act Signed Into Law by President Trump
|
I recently joined Republican Members of the Georgia Delegation and President Trump at the White House to witness the Laken Riley Act become law.
President Trump and House Republicans made a promise to the American people to secure our border and prevent violent illegal aliens from roaming our communities. While no legislative effort can soften the pain and suffering caused by this heinous act of violence, I am grateful to President Trump for signing the Laken Riley Act into law. We will never allow Laken's memory to fade, and Robin and I continue to pray for her family and loved ones.

Remembering the Victims of the Heartbreaking Tragedy at Reagan National Airport
|
Congress stood in a moment of silence this week to honor and remember the 67 victims of the American Airlines flight that collided with a UH-60 Black Hawk near Reagan National Airport. This includes our fellow Georgians Ryan O'Hara and Georgia Southern graduate, Sam Lilley. Please join me in continuing to lift their loved ones up in prayer. May God rest their souls.

Stopping the Flow of Illicit Fentanyl Across our Border
|
During the four years of the Biden Administration, our border was seemingly wide open, allowing cartels and drug traffickers to transport fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances into our country. This week, House Republicans passed H.R. 27, the HALT Fentanyl Act, a commonsense bill to stop the flow of deadly fentanyl from pouring across our southern border.
Sadly, we have all heard the heart-wrenching stories from families who have lost loved ones to overdose. Illicit fentanyl poisonings are now the number one cause of death among adults 18-49. This is far more than just a statistic, and this legislation, combined with President Trump’s latest border security wins, will make our communities safer and save lives.

Unleashing American Energy
|
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a drilling technology used for extracting oil, natural gas, geothermal energy, or water from deep underground – accounting for two-thirds of the natural gas in the United States and half of the nation’s oil. Despite the large amount of American energy it produces, fracking is under threat, as Democrats continue to attack American energy production.
The House also passed H.R.26, the Protecting American Energy Production Act, with my support. This legislation would prevent any President from declaring a moratorium on fracking unless authorized to do so by law. Additionally, this legislation expresses a sense of Congress that fracking should be regulated by states when it occurs on state and private land. House Republicans won’t stop fighting to ensure energy is affordable for all Americans!

Doug Collins Confirmed as VA Secretary
|
By a vote of 77-23, the United States Senate confirmed former Georgia Congressman, Doug Collins, as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
As a veteran himself and a dedicated public servant, Doug will undoubtedly fight to ensure America’s veterans receive the quality care they deserve. The Senate's confirmation vote is a win for those who have answered the call to defend our freedoms at home and abroad.

Attending the National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance
|
On Wednesday morning, I attended the Third Annual National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance at the Museum of the Bible where Christian and government leaders gathered to pray for our nation. We have many challenges to address throughout our country and the world, and we must always remember that turning to the Word of God can help solve what ails us and strengthen the fabric of our society.
I was blessed to offer a prayer during the ceremony which can be viewed HERE.

This Week's White House Highlight
|
REMINDER: With President Trump back in the White House, we are excited to add a new feature to the newsletter! Each week, I will highlight an executive action, announcement, rulemaking, bill signing, or any other activity from the Trump Administration to keep you well-informed on what's happening in Washington.
This week, on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, President Trump signed an Executive Order to ensure ONLY biological women compete in women's sports. Regrettably, in recent years, many educational institutions have allowed biological men to participate in women's athletic competitions. This is not only unfair, but also dangerous.
President Trump's Executive Order states: "It is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities, which results in the endangerment, humiliation, and silencing of women and girls and deprives them of privacy."
House Republicans stand with President Trump in the fight to protect every female's pathway to athletic excellence and opportunity.

This Week's Committee Activity
|
Energy and Commerce
Energy Subcommittee Hearing
"Powering America’s Future: Unleashing American Energy"
The Energy Subcommittee held a hearing on Republican efforts to unleash America's energy capabilities. During President Trump's first term, the United States not only became energy independent, we became energy dominant! I asked our witnesses about the importance of building on our accomplishments at Plant Vogtle and expanding our nuclear energy footprint nationwide.
Watch my line of questioning HERE.
Education and Workforce
Full Committee Hearing
"The State of American Education"
During this hearing, I highlighted the importance of school choice and the growing need to prioritize skills-based hiring to fill in-demand jobs. With critical labor shortages across the nation, we must shift the narrative and recognize that a traditional, four-year college degree is not the only pathway to achieving the American Dream.
