This Week Serving Georgia's 12th District

The House Education and Labor Committee voted to move forward legislation reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, and I spoke in support of this legislation on the House floor.

In 1965, the Older Americans Act was enacted to support a wide range of services and programs for individuals over the age of 60. This legislation supports many programs important for Georgia seniors like nutrition programs at churches and family caregiver support.

The House Agriculture Committee held a General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee hearing to review the implementation of federal farm programs and disaster aid.

I’m proud to share that as of September 11th, disaster assistance is now available through Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+). You can contact your local Farm Service Agency to apply for aid or contact my office for more information.

I met with several organizations throughout the week, including the Dental College of Georgia located in Augusta.

During the meeting, we discussed issues important to students and the dental industry. In March, Congressmen Sanford Bishop, Drew Ferguson and I introduced a resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and I met to discuss how we can improve domestic violence prevention.

Thank you to Amanda Hayes of Douglas for coming to D.C. to discuss this important issue and ways we can improve prevention efforts.

I also met with the National Council for Behavioral Health.

I appreciate the group taking the time to discuss issues concerning mental health and substance use providers in Georgia.

Rayonier Advanced Materials stopped by my office for a meeting.

We were able to discuss supply issues, specifically those impacting forestry and wood.

I spoke on the House floor urging Speaker Pelosi to bring the United States- Mexico-Canada Agreement, also known as USMCA, to the floor for a vote.

Passing USMCA is President Trump’s number one legislative priority in Congress—and Democrat Leadership is refusing to allow a vote solely for political purposes. Securing this trade deal will benefit farmers, businesses, workers and consumers in Georgia and throughout the country. We must have a vote on USMCA ASAP.

As your Congressman, defending the lives of the unborn is one of my top priorities. One way we can protect both babies and women’s health is by addressing mounting concerns with chemical abortion pills that are available on demand and over the counter. These pills do not have proper medical oversight, and studies show that they have resulted in severe complications and in some cases death.

That’s why I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of the Support and Value Expectant (SAVE) Moms & Babies Act. This legislation would prevent providers from distributing these pills remotely by mail or tele-medicine, prevent labeling changes for already approved abortion drugs, and prevent the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from approving new chemical abortion drugs.

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Sincerely,

Rick Allen
Member of Congress
