On Friday, I hosted a special signing day ceremony for students in Georgia's 12th District who have been accepted into one of our nation's Military Service Academies. It is extremely gratifying to nominate such qualified young leaders from our district to usher in this new generation of servicemen and women. I am honored to show my support for these selfless students whose commitment to service and our great nation is a testament to their proven leadership and courage. I have every confidence that each of these students will go on to make the state of Georgia and the United States of America proud.

• Tyler Swoope, Academy of Richmond County, offered and accepted a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy
• Gregory Tegang, Grovetown High School, offered and accepted a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy (also received an offer of appointment to the USNA)
• Bryce Reynierson, Augusta Christian Schools/Naval Academy Prep School, offered and accepted a nomination to the United States Naval Academy
• Robby Saballa, Harlem High School, offered and accepted a nomination to the United States Merchant Marine Academy
• CcChase Faamausili, Greenbrier High School, offered and accepted a nomination to the United States Naval Academy (also received an offer of appointment to the USMMA)

Preventing Fraud Through Commonsense Reforms

Washington does not have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem. Federal agencies have too often handed out taxpayer dollars with weak oversight, loose controls, and almost no accountability. 

Taxpayers expect their hard-earned dollars to be spent responsibly. However, since 2003, the federal government has made an estimated $3 trillion of improper payments, including payments lost to waste, fraud, and abuse. Every dollar improperly spent is a dollar taken away from working families. House Republicans are changing that. We are cutting wasteful spending, exposing fraud, clawing back taxpayer dollars, and forcing the federal government to prove that every dollar serves the American people.

This week, the House of Representatives passed several bills, with my support, aimed at addressing fraud and ensuring your hard-earned taxpayer dollars actually reach the people they are intended to help.

• H.R. 7892, the No Aid for Ghost Students Act:
  • Tackles fraud in student aid by requiring the Secretary of Education to use a detection system to review, identify, and investigate suspicious FAFSA applications before any aid is distributed. The legislation also strengthens accountability by prioritizing audits of schools that recklessly distribute aid to unscreened or suspicious applicants
• H.R. 8464, the Stopping Fraudulent Payments Act: 
  • Strengthens the federal payment system by building on oversight of state-administered programs, preventing federal agencies from making payments when an agency has deemed a program to be at an elevated risk for fraud or improper payments, and gives the U.S. Treasury new authority to return payment requests to agencies if they appear to be at risk for fraud
• H.R. 8312, the Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act: 
  • Expands U.S. Treasury Fiscal Service’s financial and program integrity services and establishes a permanent Inspector General for Fraud, Accountability, and Recovery to provide sustained oversight during future national emergencies and maintain the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee’s (PRAC) anti-fraud data analytics tools
• H. Res. 1335: 
  • Denounces the individuals who abuse and defraud taxpayer dollars and government entities and pledges that reforms that address fraud prevention will meaningfully improve the financial prosperity of the United States, most notably through up-front verification for eligibility before payments are issued

Since returning to office, President Trump has unleashed a bold America First agenda that is crushing bureaucracy, restoring fairness, and rebuilding American dominance.  Here are a few recent wins you may have missed:

• Food stamp dependency is plummeting. More than 4.3 million fewer Americans are on food stamps since President Trump signed the landmark Working Families Tax Cuts. Illegal aliens have been removed from the rolls and requirements restored for able-bodied adults — safeguarding benefits for Americans who truly need them.
• While work remains on affordability, economic fundamentals are roaring with strength. The U.S. economy added 172,000 jobs in May, crushing expectations. Manufacturing and construction are booming, government employment has fallen for 17 straight months, small business hiring is up for the third month in a row, and job openings are near a two-year high.
• Immigration and visa enforcement are driving down housing costs. Aggressive crackdowns on illegal immigration and H-1B visa abuse are slashing housing demand (and costs) across the country — especially in high-immigration tech hubs — delivering real relief where costs had surged the most and helping bring housing back within reach for American families.
