My beautiful wife Robin celebrated her birthday on Wednesday!
She is the best mother, grandmother, and wife that I could have every asked for and I am truly blessed to stand by her side for this birthday and many more to come!
It was Masters Week in Augusta, and I spoke on the House floor about this exciting time of year where the world gets a glimpse into Georgia’s 12th district and the wonderful people who live and work there.
A very big congratulations to Jennifer Kupcho and Tiger Woods for their victories in the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the 2019 Masters Tournament.
Their stellar performances on golf’s most demanding course was one for the ages!
Masters week is also a popular time for Georgia-12 constituents to visit Washington and I was happy to welcome many families to my office for a tour of the U.S Capitol.
If you or anyone you know would like to schedule tours in D.C., just visit my website at allen.house.gov.
I also participated in a special order on the House floor to stress the urgency of providing adequate disaster relief funding for our farmers whose livelihoods were devastated by Hurricane Michael.
Rural America and Georgia farmers are struggling to make ends meet, and we must stop the partisan politics and ensure that our farmers receive the assistance they need to recover.
The House Appropriations Committee, Energy and Water Development Subcommittee, hosted a hearing on Members of Congress’ priorities, and I provided testimony to highlight issues that are critical to Georgia-12 and for this year’s appropriations process.
During my testimony, I spoke about the many missions at Savannah River Site, spent nuclear fuel at Plant Vogtle and Plant Hatch, and the need for a permanent repository like Yucca Mountain, and funding for the deepening of the Port of Savannah.
For the first 100 days under the House Democratic majority, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle continue to endorse radical proposals such as a $32 trillion Medicare-for-all plan and the $93 trillion Green New Deal. And now they could be late submitting their budget proposal to Congress!
Instead of outlining their funding priorities for the American people, they have spent their time in the majority pushing their socialist, out-of-touch policy agenda. As a former small business owner, I never would have succeeded without a budget and I certainly knew that spending more than my means would put me out of business. It’s time for Democrats to show the American people exactly where they stand – let’s see a budget!
Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, testified during a House Education and Labor Committee hearing about the policies and priorities of the U.S. Department of Education.
I had the opportunity to ask Secretary DeVos about Career and Technical legislation passed last Congress and the Every Student Succeeds Act.
It was great to meet with the American International Automobile Dealers Association and the Georgia Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Thanks for stopping by the office!
When it comes to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ plan to replace the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam, my Senate colleagues from Georgia and South Carolina, as well as Congressman Joe Wilson and I are united. Maintaining the pool is critical to our communities, and the Corps’ simulation was a jarring representation of what the river will look like if their recommended plan becomes a reality. Read more about our efforts in the Augusta Chronicle.
I encourage everyone to take advantage of the public comment period to express your concerns. The deadline to submit your comments is Tuesday, April 16. We need your help to ensure that the pool is maintained! Comments can be emailed to CESAS-PD@usace.army.mil, or mailed to Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Planning Division, Attention: Ms. Robin Armetta, 100 W. Oglethorpe Ave., Savannah, GA 31401-3604.
Also, please keep in mind that my office is currently accepting submissions for the 2019 Congressional Art Competition.

As a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, I am proud to highlight H.R. 1855 this week, the Employee Rights Act, of which I am an original cosponsor.
The Employee Rights Act is a pro-growth, worker friendly reform package that empowers American employees and promotes a transparent and fair workplace.
More specifically, this legislation would guarantee all employees a right to a secret ballot election, safeguard work privacy, prohibit unions from intimidating employees, and much more.
As a former small business owner, protecting workers’ rights will always be one of my top priorities. I am proud to be an original cosponsor of H.R. 1855 and I thank my friend and colleague, Congressman Phil Roe (TN-01) for introducing this bill in the 116th Congress.
Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support? Share your thoughts with me! You can email me ⇒ HERE, contact any of our offices or join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Sincerely,
Rick Allen
