Today, we honor the life and legacy of a true legend, former Governor and Senator Zell Miller. Known for his quick wit and his deep love of Georgia, he was always willing to do what was right for our state. He helped build the foundation of what our state is today, and we are a better Georgia and better nation because of him. Zell Miller was the Governor who gave Georgia hope.
It was a special week as we celebrated National Agriculture Week!
In the midst of Agriculture week, I had the opportunity to spend some time with fellow Georgian and USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue, and I hope everyone will join us in thanking our farmers!
I also met with Georgia Farm Bureau to discuss this year’s Farm Bill reauthorization.
As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I am committed to crafting a Farm Bill that works for all of our GA-12 farmers. We are getting close to being finished with writing the bill and we hope to have a final product in the coming weeks!
The House passed meaningful legislation to break down regulatory barriers for terminally ill patients – granting them their God given right to try!
I was proud to speak on the House floor in support of this bill and I encourage my colleagues in the Senate to act swiftly in passing this important legislation.
“In certain states across our nation, patients who are diagnosed as terminally ill are being told by doctors that all of their treatment options have been exhausted because they do not have access to experimental drugs. This type of overregulation by the federal government is creating hopeless situations for thousands of Americans that we hold dearest to our hearts. This Right to Try legislation allows terminal patients to have a choice on whether or not an experimental approach is the path for them, and sometimes and many times, this is their only option. Now is the time for Congress to take action and give terminally ill patients a fighting chance for their God given right to life.”
Earlier this week, I was pleased to receive the Guardian of Seniors’ Rights Award.
I’d like to thank the 60 Plus Association for such an honor!
It was a great opportunity to speak to a group of educators from Georgia about my work on the House Education and Workforce committee. We discussed career and technical education, higher education reforms and the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act, which was signed into law last Congress.
Thank you all for having me!
I also joined my fellow members of Congress from Georgia and Alabama on the House floor to highlight the positive impacts that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is having on our home states.

This week, Congress brought the 2018 omnibus bill to the floor - a 2,200 plus page bill that was released at 8:30 p.m on Wednesday evening and voted on Thursday afternoon. Spending $1.3 trillion in taxpayer dollars, saddling future generations with more debt and only giving us 16 hours to view this bill is not the way to run this country. Unfortunately, I could not, in good conscience, support this legislation.
I will continue to work with my colleagues to reform our budget process as soon as possible. American taxpayers deserve better.
I am looking forward to getting back to the district for a couple of weeks to spend some time in Georgia’s 12th district! I hope you all have a great weekend!
