this week serving georgia's 12th district...

I spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Augusta where I was able to speak during the service held at Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

Dr. King’s life and legacy will always be remembered, and his impactful message about unity and harmony within our society is equally important in today’s world as it was during his lifetime.

We celebrated National School Choice Week and I was happy to speak on the House floor in support of school choice, where I highlighted Dublin City Schools.

In Dublin, school choice starts in elementary school and students are encouraged to find their passions early on and are provided with the necessary tools to succeed – and it has worked! Dublin City Schools have a 90% graduation rate, with Dublin High School reaching almost 97%!

I also reflected on National School Choice Week HERE.

Additionally, it was an honor to join many of my colleagues on the House floor to read the U.S. Constitution.

The Constitution of the United States is the foundation of our democracy and we must always remember to live and govern by the basic principles outlined by our Founding Fathers.

For the 116th Congress, I have been selected to continue serving on the House Agriculture Committee and the House Education and Labor Committee, formerly known as the House Education and Workforce Committee.

As I continue my work on the House Agriculture Committee and the House Education and Labor Committee, I look forward to building on some of the tremendous achievements we’ve made over the last four years. Just last month, President Trump signed the 2018 Farm Bill into law, which strengthens the farm safety net, provides more flexibility for our producers, protects and expands crop insurance, and much more. With agriculture being the number one industry in Georgia-12 and the state of Georgia as a whole, I am excited to continue my work advocating for the diverse agricultural priorities of our area and overseeing the implementation of the 2018 Farm Bill.

Additionally, on the House Education and Labor Committee, I look forward to supporting pro-growth policies to ensure a qualified workforce for our booming economy. With the new majority leading the Committee, I will fight any proposals that hurt the tremendous growth led by President Trump and the Republican led-Congress.

USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue announced that all Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices nationwide will reopen to assist farmers and ranchers with existing farm loans and other transactions.

Staff members will be available at all FSA offices to help producers with specific services, including: the market facilitation program, marketing assistance loans, release of collateral warehouse receipts, direct and guaranteed farm operating loans and emergency loans, to service existing conservation reserve program contracts, sugar price support loans, the dairy margin protection program, agricultural risk coverage and price loss coverage, livestock forage disaster, the emergency assistance livestock, honey bees, and farm-raised fish program, the livestock indemnity program, the noninsured crop disaster assistance program, the tree assistance program, and remaining wildfires and hurricanes indemnity program payments for applications already processed.

In response to a letter I sent to the President with many of my pro-life colleagues, President Trump also issued a letter to Speaker Pelosi promising to veto any legislation that would weaken federal pro-life policy.

As a strong advocate for the word of God, I am happy to work with an Administration that insists on standing up for life and innocent, unborn children.

I spoke at the Spent Fuel Management Seminar about Georgia 12’s unique nuclear makeup with every nuclear reactor in the state of Georgia and the Savannah River Site right across the river in South Carolina.

At Plant Vogtle, we’re leading the way in the expansion of our nation’s nuclear energy resources with the construction of the first two new nuclear reactors in the U.S. in more than thirty years. The continued progress on Units 3 and 4 is an amazing sight to see!

I am very disappointed that Speaker Pelosi delayed President Trump’s State of the Union address that was originally scheduled for next week. For the sake of bad politics – she has stooped to a new low.

However, I look forward to hearing from the President in the near future about what he hopes to accomplish during the 116th Congress.

With 2019’s National School Choice Week coming to a close, this week's legislative highlight is the SOAR Reauthorization Act, sponsored by Congressman Mark Walker (NC-06).

This legislation reauthorizes the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program for the next five years – allowing low income students to receive scholarships to attend participating elementary and secondary private schools in Washington D.C. Per the Constitution, Congress has jurisdiction over the District of Columbia – thus creating an education space that the federal government is constitutionally authorized to improve.

I was proud to co-sponsor this legislation that affords young scholars with the opportunity to flourish and succeed. The path to achieving the American Dream begins at a young age, and the SOAR Reauthorization Act can ensure that the American Dream becomes a reality for some of our brightest students.

Do you have a bill that you would like to see highlighted or that you would like me to support?

Sincerely,
