The safety and security of the American people depend on fully funded, fully operational border security agencies. Yet for over 70 days, Democrats have held the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) hostage, refusing to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
I supported the passage of S. Con. Res. 33, a budget resolution that establishes a congressional budget to responsibly fund ICE and CBP through the end of President Trump's term. Adoption of S. Con. Res. 33 unlocks the process by which Congressional Republicans can fund ICE and CBP with a simple majority vote in the Senate.
The House also passed the Senate Amendment to H.R. 7147, which fully funds additional agencies under the DHS jurisdiction, including the Coast Guard, FEMA, TSA, and Secret Service. This legislation was signed into law by President Trump, ending this harmful and unnecessary shutdown.
