this week serving georgia's 12th district...

The House passed
critical legislation that contains both the Interior and Environment and Financial Services and General Government funding bills.

The highlight of this year’s legislation is the Fund for America’s Kids and Grandkids, which safeguards 2.5% of the Financial Services and General Government portion of the bill’s total funds for future generations. As the father of four and grandfather of twelve with one on the way, we must be focused on what deficit spending means for the future and who will be burdened with the debt – and this approach forces us to do just that.

The legislation also includes many pro-life provisions:

  • It prohibits federal and local funds from being used for abortion, including funds in the Federal Employee Health Benefits program.
  • It prevents the Multi-State Plan Program under Obamacare from offering insurance plans that include elective abortion.
  • It promotes pro-life policies in the District of Columbia.

The House voted on a motion to go to conference on the 2018 Farm Bill to hammer out any differences between the House and Senate passed bills. I am pleased to announce that I have been selected as a conferee to work with my colleagues in both chambers during this process.

I will continue to stand firmly with rural America and keep Georgia priorities in mind as we work towards the ultimate goal of sending a bold and effective farm bill to the President’s desk for signature.

President Trump signed an executive order to establish the National Council for the American Worker to take urgent action to combat the skills crisis and fill the over 6 million available jobs across the country, and I was able to join him at the White House for this historic event.

My colleagues and I in the House continued our work to cut regulations and foster growth for small businesses by passing the JOBS and Investor Confidence Act.

This bipartisan legislation will make it easier for small businesses and start-ups to access capital to get the financing they need to get off the ground and grow.

I spoke on the House floor to thank and support the brave officers who carry out the important mission of Immigration and Customs Enforcement – better known as ICE.

These brave individuals are saddled with the responsibility of facing some of the world’s most dangerous and violent criminals and I thank them for their service and for the sacrifice they and their families make each and every day as they keep our communities as safe as possible.

Majority Leader McCarthy also gave a moving speech on the importance of our ICE officers. Please CLICK HERE to see his remarks.

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of our summer interns who worked so hard serving Georgia-12 this summer. If you are interested in a fall, spring, or summer semester internship, please visit my website at allen.house.gov/forms/internships.

I also welcomed the Perry family to my D.C. office this week just before they went on their tour of the United States Capitol.
