Supporting Our Servicemembers
|
Funding our military is one of the most vital responsibilities of Congress. This week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8070, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 (NDAA), with my support. The NDAA authorizes annual funding levels for the U.S. Armed Forces and sets expenditures for the Department of Defense (DOD).
I was proud to support this year’s NDAA, which will significantly improve servicemembers’ quality of life, equip our military with the tools and resources necessary to counter global threats, and restore American deterrence. Not only does it fulfill our duty to protect the homeland, but it also reaffirms our commitment to the brave men and women in uniform who defend our freedoms at home and abroad.

Protecting Workers' Choice and Flexibility
|
This week, the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee held a hearing on the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) systematic overreach and attack on employee rights.
During this hearing, I questioned our witnesses about the NLRB's assault on workers' choice to be an independent contractor. I also highlighted my Employee Rights Act, legislation I introduced that would create clarity and consistency across federal statutes with respect to employee and independent contractor status.

Fighting to Overturn the Overreaching Fiduciary Rule
|
I met with stakeholders to provide an update on my efforts in Congress to protect Americans' access to valuable retirement guidance.
President Biden's Department of Labor recently finalized an overly restrictive rule that will only complicate financial planning with burdensome overregulation and harm the very people it claims to protect—retirees and savers.
That's why Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) and I introduced a Congressional Review Act Resolution of Disapproval in the House and Senate to overturn the finalized fiduciary rule. As prices continue to soar due to self-inflicted inflationary pressures, the federal government's decision to limit access to financial advice is a severe blow and I am working to advance our bill in Congress to stop this rule in its tracks.

Bidenflation Continues to Wreak Havoc
|
Bidenflation continues to burden every American family. Since President Biden took office, the Consumer Price Index shows inflation has soared by 20.1%. Americans are now spending over $12,800 more annually to buy the basics compared to just three years ago.
American families simply cannot afford Bidenomics.

I was honored to receive an A+ rating from the Students for Life Action for my pro-life voting record in the 118th Congress.

Additional Committee Activity

Energy and Commerce
Full Committee Markup of 13 Health Bills
During this markup, we considered legislation to increase access to care, address waste, fraud, and abuse, and help make care more affordable for American families.
Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee Hearing
“Securing America’s Critical Materials Supply Chains and Economic Leadership”
We should not be reliant on China for our critical material needs here in the United States. It is a matter of national and economic security that the U.S. be a leader in the critical material economy. We need to bolster our national critical material supply chain; the mining, the processing, and the refining, and reduce our dependence on China and other bad actors for these materials. I asked our witnesses about how the Biden Administration's regulatory environment has hampered our ability to be a leader in this space.
Watch my remarks HERE.
Education and the Workforce
Full Committee Markup of Nine Bills
The Committee marked up nine bills to enhance the safety, security, and rights of students, parents, and workers. I was proud to speak in support of H.R. 8534, the Protecting Student Athletes’ Economic Freedom Act, which seeks to safeguard the economic freedom of student-athletes from misclassification by NLRB bureaucrats.
