this week serving georgia's 12th district...

Before heading to Washington, I had a great evening celebrating one of the oldest and richest cultures of the world at the Punjabi Bash in Augusta.

I also attended the Swainsboro Rotary Club meeting.

It’s always great to see so many familiar faces and discuss some of the pressing issues in the 12th District.

The House passed “Tax Reform 2.0,” legislation to build upon the great success of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was signed into law last year.

I was proud to speak in support of “Tax Reform 2.0” on the House floor and I will continue to urge my Senate colleagues to act swiftly in passing this legislation for the American people.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, and thank you Mr. Chairman for your leadership on this important bill, and yes, I came from the small business world and let me tell you, in my district, the small businesses are back!

I am proud to support Tax Reform 2.0, legislation that will build upon the tremendous success of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was signed into law last year. After 31 years under an old, outdated, and burdensome tax code that stifled our economy and plagued our job creators, America simply needed a change.

I am happy to say that we delivered on our promise of comprehensive tax reform to the American people and we are seeing new levels of economic growth and optimism around the country—and we’re not done yet.

In the month of August alone, Georgia added over 12,000 jobs and the unemployment rate fell [to] 3.8% - and we are committed to keeping this momentum going. Tax Reform 2.0 will lock in the middle-class and small business tax cuts permanently, allow families to more easily save their hard-earned money for retirement, help local businesses provide retirement plans to workers, promote start-up businesses, and much more.

As cosponsor of Tax Reform 2.0, I encourage all of my colleagues to join me today in supporting this important legislation that will unleash our economy and our economic engine that is the American family and small business. And with that, I yield back.

We also passed legislation to fully fund our military for the upcoming year in a timely manner. This is the first time in 10 years that our military has been fully funded before the beginning of the Fiscal Year. "Huuge" thanks to President Trump for insisting Congress gets back to regular order to fund our troops.

This important bill also maintained my provision to increase funding to identify fallen soldiers missing since the Korean Conflict, which was fully offset.

The House also passed sweeping, bipartisan opioid legislation to combat the horrendous opioid crisis that plagues so many of our communities.

This is a significant step in defeating opioid addiction and we will soon get this to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

I was happy to hear that the four co-owners of the Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion project were able to reach an agreement to continue with the construction of Units 3 and 4.

Moving forward with this project shores up the future of nuclear power in America and I look forward to these units coming online as soon as possible.

The House Education and Workforce Committee held a hearing on “Examining First Amendment Rights on Campus” to discuss freedom of speech amongst young scholars on college campuses.

I spoke to the Georgia Chamber of Commerce to give them an update on my work with the House Agriculture Committee and the House Education and Workforce Committee.

Thank you for the work you do on behalf of the business community throughout our great state.

I had great meetings with the Georgia Automobile Dealers Association and the Municipal Gas Authority, just to mention a few.

Thanks for stopping by!
