Beginning the 118th Congress

.

Last Saturday, I was honored to take the oath of office and renew my commitment to serving the outstanding people of Georgia's 12th District.

The American people have spoken, and in doing so gave House Republicans an opportunity to be the last line of defense against the radical Biden agenda. Under our new Republican majority, the House of Representatives will once again focus on advancing common sense legislation.

Serving as your Congressman is the privilege of a lifetime and I look forward to continuing to fight for hardworking Georgians every single day.

You can read my full statement here.

Go Dawgs!

.

Congratulations to the Georgia Bulldogs on becoming back-to-back National Champions! What an outstanding performance by the Dawgs – a perfect end to a perfect, 15-0 season.

I was proud to join the Georgia House delegation in introducing a resolution, led by my colleague, Buddy Carter (R-GA-1), honoring the accomplishments of the Georgia Bulldogs.

Delivering on our Commitment to America

Defunding the 87,000 new IRS employees

.

Republicans got right to work on the legislative priorities we laid out in our Commitment to America.

This week, I voted to pass H.R. 23, the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act, legislation that would revoke $72 billion in funding for the hiring of 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employees to conduct tax audits on middle-income Americans.

In this time of high inflation and economic hardship, Congress should work towards balancing our budget, bolstering our workforce and growing our economy, not burdening the American people with intrusive and overreaching policies.

I also caught up with Fox 54’s Lauren Young this week to discuss the bill. You can watch the full interview here.

Defending the right to life

Our new Republican majority delivered on our commitment to pro-life protections by voting to pass H.R. 26, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This bill would explicitly define any infant who survives an attempted abortion as a ‘legal person’, entitled to the same protections under federal law as those afforded to a newborn.

There is no right more fundamental than the right to life. There should be absolutely no debate over whether the innocent survivors of abortion deserve that inalienable right or protection.

My Republican colleagues and I also voted unanimously to pass H.Con.Res. 3. This resolution formally condemns the 78 documented cases of vandalism, violence, and destruction perpetrated against pro-life facilities, groups, and churches across the nation in the aftermath of the Dobbs decision last June.

A government that's accountable

.

Our government should work for the people – not against them. To that end, I joined my Republican colleagues in voting to establish a Select Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee to investigate the weaponization of the federal government by scrutinizing any issue related to the civil liberties of the American people.

Rest assured, House Republicans will use every tool at our disposal to ensure a government that’s accountable to you.

Reclaiming our energy independence

.

On Thursday, I proudly to voted to pass H.R. 22, the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act. This important legislation would prevent the Secretary of Energy from sending petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China or any entity affiliated with China.

Holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable

.

I also voted to pass H.Res. 11, which established a Select Committee in the House of Representatives to investigate the strategic competition between the US and Chinese Communist Party.

This committee will be tasked with investigating the China’s role as a supplier and producer of fentanyl as well as its deceptive trade practices, intellectual property theft, supply chain dominance, acquisition of U.S. farmland, and more.

The American people have just cause to be concerned about a rising Communist China and what it means for the future of our world. Our new Republican majority will stand tall against the China’s malign influence and defend America’s interests – something the president is evidently unable, or unwilling, to do.

Joining the House Energy & Commerce Committee

.

I am thrilled to announce that I have been selected to serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the oldest and most influential standing committees of the House of Representatives.

I look forward to working with my fellow members to continue fighting for policies to unleash American energy, reduce health care costs, and bring high-speed internet to rural America.
