Rep. Allen selected to House Energy and Commerce Committee
Washington,
January 11, 2023
Today, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) was selected to serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the oldest standing committees of the House of Representatives with broad jurisdiction over such issues as health care, energy policy, cybersecurity, and telecommunications. Additionally, the committee oversees several federal departments and agencies including the U.S. Departments of Energy (DOE), Health and Human Services (HHS), and Transportation (DOT), as well as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Upon the announcement, Congressman Allen made the following statement: “I am thrilled to begin serving on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. I look forward to working with my fellow members to continue fighting for policies to unleash American energy, reduce health care costs, and bring high-speed internet to rural America. “Georgia’s 12th District has many priorities that align with this great committee. We are home to Plant Vogtle, where the first two new nuclear reactors built in 30 years are currently under construction and expected to come online this year. Our district is also the cyber hub of the Southeast, housing U.S. Army Cyber Command, the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence, and National Security Agency-Georgia. One of the Energy Department’s 17 National Labs is housed at Savannah River Site, right across the river in South Carolina, and 40 percent of their workforce live in my district. “Under the leadership of Chair Rodgers, our committee will work to deliver on the promises we made in our Commitment to America – an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable to the American people.” Chair Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (WA-05): “I am excited and proud to welcome Rep. Allen to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. We will be at the forefront of House Republicans’ efforts to restore public trust in representative government. Americans have elected us to hold the line against Biden’s agenda. They want a different path, one that promotes free markets, innovation, free speech, and individual freedom. We stand ready to plow the hard ground necessary to legislate, hold the Biden administration accountable, and restore American leadership.” # # # |
