Putting American Science First

.

I recently introduced the American Science First Act. This bill closes loopholes in federal research funding that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) could otherwise exploit to finance their own research at the expense of the American taxpayer.

When the American people send their hard-earned tax dollars to Washington, they deserve to know, with certainty, that those funds will not be used to further the military interests of Communist China.

Celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King

.

I was pleased to speak at Abilene Baptist Church for Global Racial Unity's 36th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Celebration last Monday and pay homage to Dr. King, whose vision continues to make a difference.

Dr. King's core message about the dignity of every human being echoes as loudly today as it did in 1963 when he gave his famous speech on the National Mall. May the spirit of fellowship remain with us always.

Unleashing American energy in GA-12

American Nuclear Power Illustration by Greg Groesch/The Washington Times

I recently wrote an op-ed for the Washington Times about the importance of nuclear power in achieving energy dominance.

Georgia’s 12th District is blessed to be home to Plant Vogtle, where the first two nuclear reactors to be built in thirty years are anticipated to come online later this year. For the future of our energy security, we must ensure nuclear energy continues to play a role in our diverse energy portfolio.

Joining the Wilkow Majority on SiriusXM

.

Last week, I spoke to Andrew Wilkow about legislation House Republicans have passed to protect our national energy stockpile and address the rising threat of Communist China.

  • H.R. 22, the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act would prevent the Secretary of Energy from sending petroleum products from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to China or any entity affiliated with China.

  • H.Res. 11 established a Select Committee in the House of Representatives to investigate the CCP’s role as a supplier and producer of fentanyl as well as its deceptive trade practices, intellectual property theft, supply chain dominance, acquisition of U.S. farmland, and more.

Appearing on Newsmax's Saturday Report

.

I recently joined Newsmax's Rita Cosby to discuss House Republicans' legislative priorities for the new Congress and react to the discovery of classified documents at President Biden's personal residence.

For the last two years, the Biden administration has ducked and dodged accountability on all fronts. From open borders to rampant spending, the president and his allies in Congress have shown complete disregard for the American people.

Rest assured, my Republican colleagues and I will exercise our oversight function to get to the bottom of the many crises this president has created.

I also spoke to Chris Salcedo last Tuesday about Attorney General Garland appointing a special counsel to oversee the criminal investigation into President Biden.

Visiting Fort Gordon

.

It was great to visit Fort Gordon last week to attend the New Year's Reception with community partners and reaffirm my commitment to working closely with U.S. Army Cyber Command and the Cyber Center of Excellence to support its critical mission. I appreciated the hospitality of Commanding General Paul Stanton and his wife, Naomi, for a great event.

Meeting with the Thomson Rotary Club

I was grateful to attend the Thomson Rotary Club meeting last week and spend some time with members of our community. Meetings like these provide a great chance for me to hear directly from the residents of our district, and I always appreciate the opportunity to do so.

Recognizing the Congressional App Challenge winners

.

I visited Lakeside High School on Thursday to formally recognize the winners of the 2022 Congressional App Challenge.

Lakeside students Amber Verma, Aditi Umapathy, and Joseph Alackara were chosen for the award, offered annually to students across the nation, for their work developing Timely – a software application designed to aid productivity in individuals with ADHD and similar attention-related diagnoses.

Committee assignments for the 118th Congress

In addition to joining the House Energy and Commerce Committee this Congress, I will also be returning to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

I look forward to continuing my efforts to give families more say in their children’s education by promoting school choice, while also advocating for retirement security, improving workers’ benefits, modernizing our labor laws, supporting entrepreneurship, and promoting economic opportunity.
