Sharing our Commitment to America

.

This week, my House Republican colleagues and I held a press conference on the Capitol steps where we shared our plan to deliver on the promise of America.

Under the last 18 months of one-party Democrat rule, President Biden and Speaker Pelosi have put our country on the pathway to destruction.

Through our Commitment to America, Republicans are working to build:

  • An economy that's strong
  • A nation that's safe
  • A future that's built on freedom
  • A government that's accountable

After the press conference, I spoke briefly about our vision for returning the power back to the American people. To hear those remarks, please click here.

Democrats pass another stopgap spending bill

Since President Biden took office, Democrats have passed nearly $4 trillion in new federal government spending! You don't have to be an economist to know this is a recipe for disaster, and sound fiscal governance is long overdue.

Unfortunately, this week Democrats instead kicked the can down the road, passing a continuing resolution (CR) that will do nothing to address the many crises our country is facing, including the Biden administration's catastrophic border policies.

Every family in America has had to sit down and balance their budgets, yet Democrats in Washington continually refuse to do the same for the United States. With our nation facing a deficit exceeding $30 trillion and government spending out of control, we have to scrutinize every single taxpayer dollar being spent.

We cannot keep piling new debt onto our children and grandchildren! It is time to put our country on a responsible spending plan to reduce our debt and address our fiscal challenges for future generations.

Defunding the 87,000 new IRS auditors

.

We have heard from countless Georgians concerned about the Democrats' latest bill, which authorizes the hiring of 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents who will conduct audits on thousands of individuals earning less than $75,000 per year.

With inflation hovering near 40-year highs and American families struggling to make ends meet, the Biden administration’s insistence on deploying an army of tax auditors is not just tone-deaf—it’s callous.

This week, I co-sponsored legislation that would remove funding for these additional agents and instead use those funds to permanently reduce Americans' tax burden by codifying the increase to the standard deduction I supported in the 115th Republican-led Congress' Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which is set to expire in 2025.

Addressing the baby formula shortage

.

Due to ongoing supply chain disruptions, millions of families across this nation are still struggling to access the products they need. The baby formula shortage is still affecting too many American families, and more must be done.

That is why I was proud to join my colleagues in unanimously passing H.R. 8982, the Bulk Infant Formula to Retail Shelves Act, introduced by Georgia Congressman Drew Ferguson (GA-03).

This important legislation would boost domestic baby formula production and get more product on store shelves. Passing this bill is a huge win for families and will be a powerful tool in addressing the shortage.

Evans County Farm Bureau Legislative Dinner

.

I recently attended the Evans County Farm Bureau Legislative Dinner in Claxton, where we discussed issues facing our farmers and producers.

As the son of a farmer and member of the House Agriculture Committee, I am proud of the role that agriculture plays throughout our state and the 12th District. I will keep fighting for policies in Congress that will help our farmers thrive.

Prioritizing real mental health solutions

.

On Thursday, I spoke on the House Floor while debating Democrats' H.R. 7780, the Mental Health Matters Act.

I have long advocated for greater access to mental health services and have introduced legislation to that end, specifically to address mental health access for our nation’s youth. However, the Democrats' bill simply throws more money at government agencies and punishes employers for offering mental health benefits to their employees instead of developing real solutions.

As part of this legislation, House Democrats want to give the Department of Labor (DOL) $275 million of taxpayer money to enforce "mental health parity," a term which they have not clearly defined.

I submitted an amendment to strike this funding and provide additional guidance on what this means, but the majority party rejected it.

Meeting with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta

.

It was great meeting with representatives from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta this week. We discussed the work they are doing to provide young Georgians with a safe and encouraging after-school environment.
